I absolutely love my iShift. First automated manual I've had in a long time and I sure don't miss the old 13spd from the previous truck. I run the XE13 and have been loving, absolutely loving the fuel mileage. Putting way more profit in my pocket with less fuel spent......plus it's soooo quiet running 1200rpm@68mph
shifter on the dash is a real pain. unlike a automatic car, you have to shift some and being on the dash gives you a hell of a backache
Volvo didn't think the "Premium Shift Lever" through. That's actually what the DASH mounted controls are called in the specs, even though there is no lever to be found. I leased a '16 780 D13 with iShift a month ago. The iShift is fabulous, I've been shifting gears long enough. But having to look and then push R when backing into a dock is not intuitive. I want to be looking in my mirrors or watching the nose, and do it without looking. Also several times, call it user error, I have pushed R or D and it has not registered. Maybe I pushed the wrong button, but they are large. Bad things can happen in tight places when that occurs. My ten year old Prius has a tiny lever coming out of the dash. All electronic of course, but a lever nonetheless that allows one to change from drive to reverse and back without looking. Volvo should do something similar. Also, DON"T try to beat a yellow light with the iShift. My very first load with the iShift, coming through Hannibal, MO, I'm crawling at the 30 mph speed limit. The light went yellow when I was almost in the intersection and I mashed the throttle. The truck roared, but didn't increase in speed. The gear was too low. I looked up in horror to see a giant flash in the middle of the afternoon. It was over a week until I thankfully learned that the powers that be had decided I had not run the light (The camera company decided not to even send it to the PD for review as I was in the intersection when it turned red). Lesson learned. The ladies at the Hannibal PD were very nice on the phone.
