Keep in mind you can get a Passenger Accident Liability policy for about $250 a year. It is just in case the passenger is injured and doesnt provide a whole lot of coverage but it is something to think about if you are going to have passengers. The No passenger exclusion just means they arent paying for someone's medical bills if they are injured in an accident or just slipping while getting out of the truck. More than likely they got burned on that a few times then all carriers added that exclusion in.

I would agree Great West is good with claims / damages! There are only about 10 "good" trucking insurance companies - if there were only ten trucking companies out there, we could make the rules as well. Just food for thought!

I am with Great West as well. Ask your agent for criteria and go over it with drivers as you start the process of interviewing. Big ones you shouldn't want to hire anyways is excessive speed and speeding in construction/school zone.

It is a double edge sword. It takes a little more to find qualified drivers but they stay around longer and you will have less losses.

Most insurance companies offer pre disqualifiers list, some do not and it is a case by case bases for denial of coverage.

Pretty sad that's all he had on his record 15 over in a car two years ago in 20 years that's all he had?? Like Rolly says it's a lesson to everyone fight every ticket no matter what in your car, if you're guilty or whatever. Most judges will reduce a ticket like that charging you court cost and a fine maybe if he could have gotten that ticket reduced to 5mph over it would not be a big deal and Great West wouyld have covered him...

15 over in last 36 months is an automatic disqualification with Great West at least that is what my agent told me. That is not the date the date of the violation but the date of the conviction. Only once have they bent that rule for me and the driver was pulled over around 44 months prior and conviction was on his record for another two months. I had to put the driver on probation for 90 days and if he was pulled over for any moving violation it was automatic termination.

Interesting, we have had people with violation date over 36-months but conviction date still in the window and no issue.

Drivers we had on probation where on probation till renewal and it would be reviewed.

I guess my real ##### is that here is a guy that I know can drive, has the experience to back it up, yet I'm not suppose to hire him. But then I get these guys walking in the door that have maybe 3-4 years exp. sure they have a clean driving record.

But since I do all of the road tests, I can tell you, a good portion of these guys REALLY can't handle backing and tight spots. Most of them are drop and hook terminal guys, so IF I was to hire them I know that I am looking at some kind of claim in the near future.

To be honest, it's just like paperwork, I've had guys that have since retired, old hands that really didn't read or write that great, legible but not perfect, under the current "form and manner" rules that are being applied today, these guys would have multiple P/W infractions.

But in all of the years, AND millions of miles they ran, they never had an accident, tore up any equipment, or had any tickets, and they could put a truck and trailer places these new guys could only imagine, but I guess today P/W counts more than skill.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

It does suck and if that is all he has I would be willing to bet you can get him pushed thru if you ask.
