Rode one from Dallas to Austin several years ago. No problem at all. Granted it was a short ride.

Nowadays the hippie chicks use bus lines like Green Rabbit. Bong hits optional.

I dropped a pushtube and got the cam in a big cam 3 at witichita falls once, no problem just got a motel for a few days. The problem was my wife had driven from New Mexico and met me at shamrock, and she had to get back home before I could get the truck fixed and deliver the load. That was the only time in my life I rode the dog, and when we were coming into childress I told the bus driver to let me out at the red light and I would thumb it the rest of the way. The sucker would not do it, he carried me about a mile off the highway to the bus station, claimed he didn't know what the police would do if he just let me out. I walked back to the little truckstop, and probably wasn't there 10 minutes before a bullhauler I knew stopped for fuel, I got to her car faster than any dog would have gotten me there anyway.

It's a pretty good indication they are cheap aces. They tell me I have to ride Greyhound any real distance, and the conversation is over.

I rode Greyhound from Penn Station Newark, NJ to Denver, CO in 2001.

    My condensed notes:

In Ohio we were stopped by the DEA i believe it was so they could search the baggage hold and run dogs through the bus.

At the bus terminal in Ohio, I saw an old man that may have been in his 80's confused and struggling with how to transport all his baggage to the new bus. There was an armed security guard standing there ridiculing him and telling him it ain't his f'n job to carry no bags.

I had recently turned 21 and had a bottle of vodka with me. Didn't know it was illegal to transport liquor across state lines. I dropped my laptop bag with the bottle inside, it fell and broke. I started cleaning up the mess and by the time I had finished that same security guard was hovering above me. Taken to a back room, intimidated and threatened with jail. I'm not much of a pushover and this song and dance didn't impress me so the security guard eventually got tired and told me to just leave.

At some point we picked up a guy dressed in all black with the tall boots and makeup (goth). A quarter of the people on the bus were hollering at him making jokes. The bus driver eventually got in on the fun. Not very much longer the person asked to be let off the bus and the driver did not hesitate. I watched this guy get dumped on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere as far as the eye could see.

We stropped at a rest stop in Ogallala, NE and were told if we were not back on the bus in 5 minutes we were being left behind. Everyone was starving and protested this 5 minute rule. 5 minutes came and went. Then 10. Then 15. The driver had not returned. Someone ventured inside and he was seated at a table with a nice meal. People on the bus decided he was full of BS so they got off to eat. As we were pulling away, I watched a guy running after the bus with a smile on his face, assuming the driver was not being serious. Never saw that guy again.

Looking back at the photos of our Greyhound adventure, my buddies and I realized that the guy behind us we had been chatting with was carrying a pistol in his waistband. And the girl he had with him didn't look to be over 15 years old. He seemed to be in his 50s.

I think i'd rather smoke crack then ever ride a Greyhound bus again. On the bright side I got to see lot lizards slithering around Iowa 80.

    Today won't ride the Greyhound.

A year from now will be peeing in bottles and showering once a week.

(Maybe not this one... but most)

Rode from Lordsburg, NM to Provo, UT.

Had the entire row to myself. Slept through til St. George, UT. Even slept thru the Virgin River Gorge with all of its turns and whatnot.

So, meh, got me where I needed to be with no hassle and no icky bugs. :bonedemon:

Where is you sense of adventure?

The pregnant girl that wants to have a go with whoever that is willing. Or the heated skirmish between the two people that just happened to be packing fillet knives for the trip. Or maybe the greasy headrest.

What will you talk to your grandchildren about of you don't ride the grey dog?

Don't forget the guy that carries on a complete conversation.. that then turns into a violent argument... with himself for the entire trip.
