The stars these guys are buying is to get the new detroit, which seems to be holding up fairly well and the warranty is longer right now, but that will change like always. lol

I'd love to see CAT come back into the game. Must not be enough money in the market to be worth it for them.

Yeah I heard those are really good for a new engine. Only Detroit I’ve had was the big s60. I loved that motor.

Rather like AMD and Nvidia, but there is more competition between those two than CAT and Detroit.

All the trucks I have driven have had either a CAT or Detroit. I much prefer the Detroit.

Meh, maybe the guys at work were wrong. They were talking about a new truck engine that passed emissions but I can’t find any new on highway motors.

The off highway C15 runs DEF now so there's really no reason other than the market not being profitable.

From what I understand, the off highway and on highway is way different in government hassles, and cat pretty much sells everything they make without the hassle of messing with the government, plus the emission motors do not hold up to old time cat standards in trucks, and they have to warranty them.
They worked on some joint project with international on some big engines, spent several years and millions testing them up here, only to scrap the engine.

EPA regulates off road emissions as well. On road truck engines, according to this, was a very small portion of CAT's revenue.

The CAT truck was bound to be a failure. First they partnered with Navistar. Second, it wasn't a true CAT engine. It was a C15 block and a few other CAT parts. Navistar designed the rest.
