I have been doing this for 15 years and I get so bored some days it's pathetic. Especially driving in the middle part of the country. All this garbage about "maybe it isn't for you" is just that garbage. There are going to be days where your mind decides to take a side trip. There are going to be days where you have a hard time sitting in the seat and getting down the road. That's just part of being human. I don't care what any of the so called super truckers say. Ask just about anyone in any proffession and they are going to say the same thing.
Anybody feel like this?

Put him out in NE,OR any flat road for 11 hours of driving, hes either going to hurt him self or someone else -
Everyone handles boredom in different ways. I don't know him anymore than I know you so I can say one way or the other if your statement is true. -

I agree with Bubba on this one.
The fact of the matter is driving for hours at a time can and often is very boring. The boredom factor is something dare I say all drivers have to contend with.
I figured going into this profession that boredom at times would be an issue. I admit it. I have a very clean safety and performance record so apparently I haven't been a threat to society just because hundreds of miles of dotted lines didn't exactly stimulate me. I found ways to cope with it and to make the hours go by. I chose to pass on some of my ways to make my driving time more interesting in hopes this would help him.
This newbie is acknowledging that boredom is a challenge and has come on this forum in hopes that veteran drivers can offer some advice to help him enjoy his job more and hopefully keep himself mentally engaged enough to be alert and safe.
I tried to offer tips that have helped me. Meanwhile others would rather chase him out of the industry before he's had the chance to adapt to his new lifestyle. If given the chance he may be a two million miler with a good record. But to tell him he should give it up and say he's not cut out for it strikes me as being a little arrogant. New drivers come to this forum for help, encouragement and advice. You guys are free to speak your mind I realize that, but is that the way you'd like your son, daughter or nephew to be treated after asking an honest question? -

I couldn't agree more with roadkill.
One of the best things I have found to help me in my Kindle. It has a text to speech option on it so I can listen to books while I am driving. Right now I am four books into a ten book series about ancient Rome. I know that sounds a little nerdy but it's really very interesting. The best part about it though was the books were free to download.
