I run out to Phoenix, Albuquerque, El Paso and all over the Southeast. My cooler stays 25-35 F all year. I set my cooler on the floor between passenger and driver seat. To isolate the cooler from the floor of the truck I set in on 2 rolled-up bath towels. I have a 1800 watt inverter, but no room for a dorm fridge, since I cannot take out the passenger seat and only have a mid-rise sleeper. To monitor the cooler interior temp I bought a wireless indoor/outdoor digital thermometer from walmart and have the "outside" temp sensor attached to the plastic divider. The digital display monitors the current, min, max temp for last 24 hours. The ONLY time my cooler interior gets to 45 F is when I accidentally pull the power cord from the 12v socket, or go to bed in the sleeper and don't notice I didn't put the APU on standby.

I am very happy with my new cooler. I did replace power cords a few times per year with my old cooler and replaced the fan motor once or twice.

Amazon sells a temp monitor doodad for $12 that can serve as a thermostat for the cooler. You designate what temp range to maintain and it will cut/restore 12v power to maintain that temp range. It only needs a power connection to your cooler and a temp probe to be left inside the cooler.

I watch a lot of RV and off-grid YouTube videos to get ideas for the truck.
