What much weight are you pulling?
What kind of transmission and rears?
    Pro and cons?
    Reliability?

Looking to buy a truck with a 350 Cummins, 2:93 rears and a 8 Speed.

    What’s your thoughts?

    thanks in advance guys

    Which 350 Cummins.?
    Ism
    IsL
    Isc
    Isb
    Big Cam
Guessing that be a 1 to 1 trans with rears that tall..

    I run a 320/350hp Detroit, fuller 9speed, 4.10 rear @ >55k lbs gross & it gets the job done..

Is a wee sluggish getting up to speed, but actually pulls hills decent..

If I'm not mistaken @truckdad had a 350 small cam hauling massive OSOW machines in a '72 Pete. 5×4 20 speed trans, & 4.33's rears.

The biggest thing I'm no fan of are the 2.93 rears you mentioned.

In a sub 80k lb application I see no reason a 350hp won't get the job done though. Will be slower than the 425-500hp of today's trucks. You can also tweak the injection pump for some more ponies, but that is above my pay grade..

Again, I'm a sub 55k lb outfit. My 320/350hp is really only a 320hp right now because my cruise control does not work. But I do fine at that power. 30 more hp, & thinking the Big cam is more torque also should make it happen. The trucks of yesteryear got it done too!! :)

The big cam 350 was putting out about 1100 ft lbs of torque. The biggest problems you are gonna have is the rear gears and trans. 3.90’s or 4:11’s and 13 speeds make an old nh Cummins pull good. You need the 300 rpm splits to keep your rpm up. The power feel is different and You will be running 2100 on the tach to what the new generation engines are doing 800 rpm less. It gets the job done but slightly slower.
Just like an 8 second race car and a 10 sec. race car. They both get down the 1320 but in a different performance bracket.

I think I may go and get the fuel pump amped a bit. And go from there. I have 2 trucks wity some better Rears that I can switch it 2 down the line. Then maybe the injectors.

You think I will be ok if put switch up the tranny and rear. I have 2 trucks I can switch it out with.
