The bike work will be a nice change of pace and I’m sure my knees will be okay with it. A few months ago I purchased a cold plunge, so when I’m home I’ve been sitting in that for five minutes. That refreshes the legs too.
As for the HR, it’s zone one, with a little zone two depending on the hill. But it’s pretty much just cruising around.
The road bike is a game changer. I rode with a work buddy Thursday and he’s got a ten speed mountain bike. He’s in pretty good shape, but that road bike is easy to just get up and go with little effort. But man they are pricey.

That Z1 work will probably benefit you more than you know. From my reading, upper Z2 work is too fast for the more aerobically fit folks, and low Z2 or upper Z1 is better.
I don't see myself droppin 5k$ on one, but maybe I can find something decent used in the 1-1500$ range.
I'll get an idea of size and features I need and ask the kids to keep an eye out on FB.
FYI There's a bike thread on here too.

Today I met up with one of our Engineers and a guy I work with. The Engineer was a serious cyclist back in the day. He did some pretty long rides, most notably a 505 mile ride out west.
He took us on an almost 18 mile ride with some flat land and some good climbs. It was rather enjoyable. Flat land is fun, but boring so the stress up the hills was nice actually.
I understand what you’re saying about the zones. It’s way different than running and will take some time to get used to. I don’t know where I want to be with HR zone and the Power Zone. I need to do some research on that.
I picked up my bike off Craigslist for $1,300. 2022 Trek Elmondo SL6.Big Road Skateboard Thanks this. -
Very cool. I saw that 580ish feet of elevation and wondered how that compared to the flats.
Most everything I do on the mtn bike is up or down. Pretty tough rides for me. It's been awhile since I've ridden a good long ride. I might hit the mountains again when I get back from SC and see how it goes with a fresh tune up on the bike.
I'm restarting my training plan next week, so not gonna be much free time for other stuff.
I've already told the kids to keep an eye out. Of course they're sending me 5k$ full carbon bikes.DeereRunner97 Thanks this. -
I don’t know if I could do mountain biking. It’s probably a mental thing of not if, but more of when you go head over handlebars. Unfortunately you and I still have to wake up the next morning and go to work. Maybe I have the wrong mindset towards mountain biking. We also just don’t have the trails here.
Still the same training plan, just starting over or are you going to change a few things up? When is your ultramarathon again?
Have a good ride out to South Carolina. Hopefully the traffic isn’t too bad for you. I fly back out to Denver tomorrow for the rest of the week. I kind of miss making that drive. Used to stop at the TA in Limon and walk to Oscars for a steak, always the highlight of that haul.Big Road Skateboard Thanks this. -
Same training plan, I was just mistaken thinking it was s 24wk plan, and it's actually a 20. Race is Oct 23rd
Back in the mid 90's, before life caught up with me, I used to do some adventure racing.
Back then, not very many folks 2ore helmets. Hell, even no helmets for the rock climbing and rappell, or life jackets for the whitewater part.
The only bad wreck I've had was during one of those races. Had finished the entire race pretty well, and was within a half mile of the finish.
I was haulin ### down the trail, hit a jump too hard, and sailed into the creek on the other side of 90* turn the trail took.
My brother thought I was dead. I finally got around, swore my arm was broken, but finally got moving enough to carry my bike across the finish line. I had ruined the front wheel and fork.
I'm not doing thar crazy style stuff anymore
