It will go into gear in that scenario, at least the 9 speed I was driving a few years back did. The truck felt like it lurched forward and stalled out. The truck and trailer brakes were set. It felt as if the truck may have moved forward slightly but I'm confident that it didn't move one inch. Scared the hell out of me though.

It looks like a Dodge tranny???
-
What gave it away? The fact its blown to bits?
D.Tibbitt, dngrous_dime, Trucking in Tennessee and 3 others Thank this. -
That 727 Chrysler unit really took a beating !
Looks like the high clutch drum blew up the way the sun shell is all belled out.
As a matter of fact the high clutch drum is completely missing with just the clutchs and steels hanging there.
Also the intermediate band is missing and it sheared off the input shaft.
Was that behind a Cummins diesel when it failed? -

No but ive woken up in middle of the night. Frantically checking my brakes are set becaise i thought i was moving...
MOBee, gentleroger and buddyd157 Thank this. -
The AXODE Taurus units had poor lubrication to the lower planetary and the planet would run dry and explode destroying the lower part of the case.
The fix was to install a lube dam to dam up the oil around the planetary and then run it a quart over full. -
ohhh....yeeeaahhh....
