Anyone else seeing a slow down at their company

Bet most would take Dec 23 to Jan 1 off lol. I know I would.

 

We already get 12 paid sick days per year. Most guys take them because they just want the day off. Only need a doctor's note if we take more than 3 in a row.

 

No slow down for me. More work than I can legally handle, been making $850-900 a day as well, so not too worried about inflation/ recession.

 

Talked to a guy I worked with hauling grain, says their busier than ever hauling in Saskatchewan.

 

Good to hear that most are still getting in their regular hours or mileage for the week . My self just lost another shift this week do to no work atleast it was my last shift ,altogether they did call me and another driver on wednesday Being that we sleep during the day and had our ringers off missed the calls and dispatch didn’t bother to leave a message so we both worked wednesday. I’m getting to the point where losing a shift a week isn’t going to cut it . Especially with the big R coming around the corner, interest rates hikes and inflation on everything . I can’t afford to lose $250 -290 a day every week it’s ridiculous with how big Kriska is and how they seem to have money to buy other companies up all the time but no work for their own Drivers . the company made such a big deal out of me and the other senior driver who has 20 plus years in for coming in at 4:30 pm instead of 5pm because we have a daycab storage and they had to pay us the extra 1/2 a hr for waiting around sometimes up to a hr for trucks . With almost 11 years with a company sucks to give up 4 weeks vacation and start all over again but what else can a guy do right

 

Been a company owner of a flatbed outfit for 7 years now and this is the worst we've seen it. After all these years, I've learned to deal with it now. I understand my guys need the work and there are families to take care of as cost of living is increasing also.

Tough situation for everyone, but stay optimistic. From what the old school guys tell me, it was never this choppy. I've been encouraging my drivers to start investing their money when times are good so they have a way to get through these times. The world is changing fast and trucking has been getting slapped around.

 

What part of the country do you operate in? I've been off the road since early summer doing something else with equipment but still have all my insurance and authorities active. It was starting to dry up back then, couldn't find much going Edmonton to the west coast. Loads were starting to become harder to find going east from BC which was unusual as well.

 

Ontario. We operate from ON to the US.

 

Amazon started cutting the rates as well in the GTA. Used to have loads from Vaughan to Bolton for $350 and that's down to $220 now. Barely covers fuel and the driver pay. Halton Hills to Vaughan used to pay $450 and now it pays $300.

We usually make about $1200 a day (before expenses)on a 12 hour shift for one truck (we have 18), not sure if it's good or bad
