Many times I've taken friends and family along with me but I owned the equipment and paid the insurance under my own authority. Things are very different with a company job.
Anyone ever allow someone to ride along?

I know this is a long shot and it doesn’t look like anyone has posted lately since July 2025. I have completed my Commercial Learning Permit. I am just needing someone to ride with that will let me do small task like backing, turning, just to get used to moving a truck. I would be ok with driving as well as long as the owner operator was ok with it. I am needing to take my driving skills test in October I just need some experience before the two day course and exam. I’m not wanting paid, I just need a super nice person to let me ride along and learn. My name is Deano. I hope someone will say yes as my clock is ticking away quickly. I can stay on the road as much as needed as I have no serious commitments at the time. Thanks a million deano

You better start your own thread if you want to have a chance at that. Not nearly as many drivers will notice this old thread.

good luck with this. I wanted the same but got nowhere due to insurance fears/realities. You will be right though, just believe in yourself and turn the key. I had never driven a truck till 7 years ago and I'm 56 now. I licensed up, flew 2500km to drive one home, and started driving narrow wind roads on steep declines loaded. Up and back like a yo yo 4 times a day. Not perfect but not disastrous also. You work and learn, listen, watch and take it slow. Now dive a semi up and down the same dam road like a robot. Reverse in blind side in an S pattern in the dark from a car lined street. You just make it happen.OldeSkool Thanks this.

Have you contacted the DMV? The DMV will want to know which cdl school you attended.
Where are you located? Zip code or city/town. -
Trying to go the cheap and lazy way, are you?
It doesn't work like that.
