Hi CJ, sounds like a good TV series. Creepiest place I picked up at was at a lead mine in Herculaneum, Mo. Not a tree or shrub or blade of green grass around. Couldn't leave the truck, pretty standard, looked like hexl itself, by the furnaces. The guy brings out 7 bundles of ingots, about 2ftx2ft x2ft. 4 in the front, then big space, and 3 in the back.( had to nail the pallets to the floor) I said, "is that all"? He said, well, you've 44K there. WOW. Who'd have thought lead was so heavy, and it pulled like it too. I was glad to get out of there.
anyone ever deliver to a prison ?

Most interesting though was about a year after 9/11 when I was running a 100 ton mobile crane. Had a job at the Turkey Point nuke plant south of Miami. We had to go through all kinds of checks (explosives, firearms, etc.) all while under the watchful eyes of armed guards with MP5 submachine guns. Once cleared thru background checks, I had to load my counterweights and lifting block from my flatbed drivers truck outside the main gate, then leave him there and do the terrorist slalom course (series of concrete barriers leading up to and beyond main gate) to get the crane in. Even though I had all 5 axles with independent steering, it's not really good for the machine to do while loaded with full counter weights. I also had to swing both sections of jib by myself since my driver had to remain outside (only "essential" personel were allowed "inside"). The whole process to get inside took about 10 times as long as it actually took for me to set the crane, and do the 2 lifts I was there for-one to remove and old boiler, and one to lift it's replacement. Heck, it even took longer for them to scan me outbound for radiation exposure than the actual lifts....LOLrocknroll81 Thanks this. -

Deliver to Supermaxx in Canon City, Co. all the time, in addition to the state prisons. Piece of cake, actually it's harder to get in the warehouse than it is to get in the gate. Biggest thing, they make me lock my leatherman and pocket knife in my side compartment take the side compartment key off the key ring and put it in my shoe. Last time I was delivering there, one of the guards on the dock was this cute lil' blonde with a death stare. She was about 5'7", curves in all the right places, and mighty fine curves too. One of the inmates pulled a piece of pallet off my trailer, made a "think fast" move towards her with it, she never said a word, but the look she gave, made me want to go back to my cell.
Sometimes deliver to Denver County jail, the women's side, one time there was a couple of cute 20-somethings, that maybe a little extra soap and water (and laser tattoo removal) might have made them attractive. Another time, the women were all old enough to be my Mother, or grandmother.Last edited: Jun 15, 2015

Delivered a load of soap on a rope. To Shadow Mountain in Canon City Colorado years ago.
mhyn, allniter and Criminey Jade Thank this. -
I like hauling prison loads. Usually very quick unloads because they have unlimited free labor. The only bad one I've been to was the New Mexico women's prison near Grants. Those girls scared the hell out of me. I delivered to LA County jail once, it was an LTL load of candy bars and those guys were so happy to see me I felt like Santa Claus. Commissary must have been out or something.
Criminey Jade Thanks this. -
I've delivered building materials to a prison, a nuke power plant and military bases. The power plant was by far the the strictest. All were interesting stops though.
