I recently lost my birth certificate, and my CDL is up for renewal Jan 25th, 2025. For those who have found themselves in this same situation, did you request a new certificate online? A quick google search tells me I could do it online with ROVER or Vitalchek.
How long would it take to receive my new certificate in order to renew my Hazmat? My current driving position does not require me to have the hazmat, so it’s not the end of the world if I have to renew my CDL without the endorsement and just get it again later. I’d still have to take the written exam again anyway in addition to the background check.
Edit: I’m a Georgia resident.
Anyone ever had to replace their birth certificate?

I don't know about other states, but in Michigan you just go to County office and a clerk prints you a new one
-
A birth certificate won't expire like a license or passport so no reason to delay getting replacement.
If the governement office is difficult to get to might be able to replace online or by phone.Zonno Thanks this. -
my state, i filled out a form online with my state's health dept, vital stats office, provide credit card info, or print up form, mail check.
here they ain't free, $25.00 each time.
by mail, about 2 week turn around, by online, a few days
keep it with all your important documents. -
Same process in my state more or less when mine fell apart.Zonno Thanks this.

it ticks me off, that we have to prove we are born Americans', to obtain licenses, passports, non-driver license ID's, whatever.
but, if it stops all others, maybe its in the "win column"Arctic_fox and Zonno Thank this. -
I’m in Georgia (I failed to mention that).

Years ago I got mine in person because I don't want anything like that traveling through the mail.
Also, you can use your passport instead of your birth certificate when you renew your hazmat.tscottme Thanks this. -
I've done it twice, and mine is from Puerto Rico ( a now defuncted air force base). So calling is nearly impossible. I used vitalcheck and had no problems. Have you tried calling the city you were born in?Zonno Thanks this.

It takes a birth certificate to get a passport, and last I checked 6 mos to get a passport. I occasionally cross into Mexico with no passport and with I d. They have to let you back inZonno Thanks this.
