Anyone ever misplaced their CDL?

    OK let’s say somebody lost/misplaced their CDL while out OTR. This is a disaster, right? He does have an image of it saved and now printed on paper. It may take 10 days to get another from his state DMV. Has this ever happened to any of you guys? Opinion on what would happen if he was unlucky and got a DOT inspection during those 10 days?

    Don't misplace it.

    The beginning of a potential stack of charges is failure to possess a CDL in a CDL rated or combination vehicle among other things.

    By the time they get through with you, you will never ever do something that stupid as to forget your CDL. This is not something where you can trapeze across a disneyland tralala without a care regarding those things.

    Even to this day I still recall in memory the serial of my Maryland CDL/Class A from back in the 80's I can probably sprout that number and it will come up. In addition to my current or any other licenses I possess.

    Call your state dmv and ask them if they can fax or email you something to get you by til you get home.

    Some states will take you straight to jail.

    I had a shipper in PA take my license to make a copy. It was high dollar stuff they were shipping. Unfortunately, they left my license in the copier, then denied they kept it when I realized I didn’t have it and called them to ask about it. I was off work for three weeks over that fiasco.

    I now have a policy that you can see it, but you ain’t touching it.
