I have a pair of flaps on my truck that are 12 yrs old that I have had on my last 5 trucks. kept taking them off and putting them on the next truck. look as new as the first day. tough as nails.

That doesn't help us unless you tell us what brand/where you got um.

I always find the real heavy ones from Peterbilt. The ones that were on my last truck I put on there when I bought it, they are still on there to this day with having been hanging around for more than a million miles.

Really be careful backing in an area with water covering the potholes. The mud flaps float back under your wheels and then you hit the edge of a pot hole and not only tear that off but the bracket that holds them up. I was in a flooded parking lot in St. Joseph, Missouri and watched three different guys do that in 2 hours.

Wow OP I am going to replace my right mudflap tomorrow actually the exact thing you described happened to me for the first time. I used wire ties to hold the mud flap in place for now since I know I wasn't going through any places with DOT or scales. In my case I think it is just wear and tear since the same mud flap has been on my truck for over two years and I guess the vibration finally ripped through the bolt. I know I am not backing into curbs I pay attention to that every time.

in some states they have laws about how short your mud flaps can be. so you should be somewhat careful of the length. no reason to let the dot have a free shot at you about mud flap length. had one of my driver get a ticket at the scales in banning calf. for mud flap length cant remember for sure but 5 inch length from the ground comes to mind. be safe out there

That's why a lot of those guys have eye bolts in the ends of them for hanging them up as soon as they get off road.
