I worked for them in Tampa in the 90's, pulling a pneumatic tank.
It was a job, that's about it.
At that time they pressured you to run illegally.
You were paid percentage, and only when loaded.
There was a lot of unpaid for miles, and very cheap loads. I made a living, but you busted your butt doing it. If you happened to get home on the weekend, they expected you to show up at the terminal on saturday morning and wash your own truck and tanker.
They occasionally paid for tank washes out on the road, but sometimes the address of the tank wash they gave you on the phone would turn out to be a coin car wash you could barely fit the truck into....not to mention getting on top with the nozzle to attempt to wash the tank out.
When I worked there, there seemed to be quite a few drivers who were nervous when asked to do a drug test.
Subsequently, the drivers the office knew would not have problems, were nailed for drug tests 'randomly' many times a year...while the problem drivers seemed to escape the randoms.
People that like the company don't know any better, or expect much. Maybe it's different or better now? They seem to have expanded a lot.
Anyone have info on Walpole?
