Full fuel, 45k in the fridge puts me over 12,000. Don't need no stinkin' more metal hangin' off the front. Just gonna get me a phaser death ray n' fry 'em before I get there!

I had no choice and now I have to play the fuel game if Im too close to a scale when I top off.

It's heavy enough and fairly solid.. Already showing signs of rust after 3 months.

Mine is Silver... I've seen most other trucks are black so I don't know if they are of similar construction or material.

A quick answer to being heavy on your steers is to go to 16ply tires. Then you can get away with running up to 14,000# on your steers.
I run 13.3K to 13.8K on my steers with my fifth wheel all the way up. The tires are a bit more expensive but running a smaller gap between truck & trailer will more than pay the difference in fuel mileage.

Not if your axle isn't rated for it!

IP, we've had this convo before, Though it's best to have a rated axle it is not required. The only thing dot even checks is the tires. Next time you are in Springfield you can verify this at the DOT office next door, or you can simply call Paul H. (Director of Maintanance at Prime inc.) as he has already had this verified.

    I actually have a 13.2K axle & am 13.3K when I'm empty.

You might ask DB about that... and its a judgment call at the side of the road as well. Frankly, Paul H is an idiot.

Edit: While you are legal to enter the interstate system at 20,000 lbs, you have to run state routes to get there (including the US highway system.) You would be illegal without an overweight permit in Arkansas (12,000 lbs,) Indiana (12,000 lbs,) Louisiana (12,000 lbs,) Mississippi (12,000 lbs) and possibly Montana (limited to manufacturers specification,) and Wisconsin (13,000 lbs except on class B highways which is 12,000 lbs.) There is an exception for APUs in most states that increases that limit to 12,400 lbs - but only if you have a letter from the APU manufacturer stating what the weight of the APU as installed is. Many of those states limit the maximum weight to the value stated on the letter plus 12,000 lbs, or 12,400 lbs, whichever is less.

Now, with the above being said, lets take Indiana. Currently 40% of the CSA violations written in the country come from Indiana, which is a "probable cause" state. 1 mph over the limit is enough to trigger a roadside inspection. If they're doing a blitz with roadside scales - you just got a speeding ticket on a federal inspection, and I'd be willing to be an overweight violation if you are at 12,001 lbs on your steers. Pennsylvania does the same sort of thing, although their maximum is 20,000 lbs.

As far as Missouri is concerned, the answer you got makes perfect sense for the state of Missouri, and nowhere else in the United States. Their limits are 22,000 lbs on the steer axle, or the rating on the tires whichever is less. Missouri does not establish policy for the other 47 states in the lower 48.

In Canada, the maximum weight on the steer axle is limited to 12,125 lbs, period.
