Hey Gonzo, got a question. Look at this quote:
"... because they have absolutely no respect for anyone but themselves.. They hang out in the middle lane forcing people to pass on the right.. You can't tell them anything they know it all.. They only use the cb for picking a fight never to help anyone, If you've been out here as long as yousay then youknow what I'm talking about.. Those are for starters but I'm not going to go into great detail and list every pet peeve I have.. You'll say oops you forgot one or somthing similiar."
Have you not just described yourself? Whatever you think of what tlea says, I can tell you this. Tlea is fair, objective and truthful about what he writes.
And for what it's worth, sometimes we hang in that middle lane for a while because we're going through cities. If you're in the right lane, you've got cars darting in front of you and slowing down to catch an exit at the last minute. You've got people either trying to drag race you to the rail at the end of an entrance, or you've got some brave and timid guy at the same time riding alongside your right tire trying to decide to go behind you or in front. the middle lane gets rid of all that. You don't like it. Well, work for a company that hires intelligent people (if you qualify)
I'm not saying that you're not intelligent, but I can certainly say of the post I quoted here, you really need to adjust to human life a bit. Think about it. You're upset at Tlea simply because he's not mad at the same people as you. that's not exactly bright. You're probably better than that. So in the profound words of a man that ended days of riots, "can't we all just ..... get along?" -
Hey wgcarver are you getting the miles you want from stevens? How do you like friving for stevens?

Yukon,
I lease with Stevens. I average 2,946 miles per week (this year), with the trend ever so slightly upwards. I like driving for Stevens. -

I get to run the whiz bang outta their lease truck, and then pass it off for a new one. I've only ran new Petes with A.P.U's, which is their most expensive truck, first as a solo, then as a trainer, and I've made great money along the way. Their maintenance is good, my profits have been high, and I generally get to run all the miles I can eat.
I see people lease all the time, and many newer drivers simply fail because they don't have the drive or stick-to-it-ness to master that first year of learning the ropes. I mean really....is it Stevens fault that you have a five day run across the landscape with a Kraft load and decide to take all five days to do it instead of hustling out there in three days for what is a drop and hook?
Is it Stevens fault if you don't know that the best way to get off a load is to run it hard and then hit a good spot for a repower?
Learning the ropes, where the good "fishin' holes" for freight are, takes time. Building a rep as a driver that can and WILL get the tight loads in on time takes time. Learning how to operate profitably takes time. It might not be best for all new drivers, or all drivers in general to be lease ops, but the money IS there.
I've turned out trainees that I could lay money on being successful when their time came. I've been right 100% of the time and those trainees are now profitable drivers making dang good money. They've also made me proud in being a small part of that.
I've also seen trainees who I knew would lose their shirt if they leased, owing to their lack of drive or intellect, or an overabundance of passivity. I steer those trainees towards company driving, even if they insist they want to lease. I try to get them to go company for a year until they learn the ropes before considering a lease.
I understand that peoples lives and dreams are at stake. I will not lie to help fill a lease truck seat. I am available 24/7 by phone for my ex trainees to call on for my help in deciding how to run a load, or in some cases, which loads to reject as unprofitable. I want them to succeed and be able to look them in the eye, if not as a friend, then at least as a a man of integrity who they can use as a resource.
It's like ANY endeavor, or life in general......there will ALWAYS be winners and losers. The person involved has the LARGEST say in what his fate will be if he chooses to be proactive and use all of his resources.
That's MY take on it.
RedWillies Trucking and SpyderRyder Thank this. -
One of my trainees from about 6 months ago was an ex trainer from C.R. England. He made trainer real fast at C.R. England after about 3 months otr experience (said with more than a hint of sarcasm). But he quit them and came to us as a trainee.
We got to know each other real well, and still talk on the phone. His stories of deductions and methods of operations on the C.R. England lease, along with what he brought home on 5k miles compared to my profits on 5k miles made me GLAD I'm where I am.
BTW...he's now a lease op with Stevens and making twice what he did over at C.R. England. I know he's a lease op because he put me down for a referral bonus which paid out this week.
(I plan on cutting him a T-check today and giving him half of this unexpected bonus for a surprise Xmas gift.)Willies Trucking Thanks this. -

That's awesome of you to do that for a guy. Sounds like a good place to be. I was out fishing yesterday and got the call. Hopefully if all goes according to plan, I will be out there to start training on the 10th. Can you request a specific trainer? -
Does Steven's hire company drivers only in Texas? I was reading that you cant take the company trucks home unless you prove to them that you have a six foot high fence and a lock. Is this ture?
