Really depends on the company and type of accident. If it's a rollover or a rear end collision, odds are your career is over. If it's speeding, in a construction zone, school zone, etc... you're probably looking for a new company or sitting for 2-3 years.

If it's a backing accident, you'll probably be safe from being fired for that accident, but anything else in the next 6 months to a year and you'll be fired. That's what I'd be worried about. If you're going to have an accident it's probably not likely to happen in the first 6 months. Normally it's after you feel comfortable and ####y, stop taking your time and start taking chances. First few months I barely passed anyone or changed lanes except to take a left exit. Which is fine as a swift company driver doing 62 lol

While parking at a rest area for my 30 min break, I made a rookie mistake and Misjudged. The trailer hit the guard rail and damaged the side skirt and busted a hole in the refer tank. Load is undamaged. No other vehicles or persons involved.

It could also show the current employer that their driver with 6 months of experience isn't yet ready to 'train'.

That's not a rookie mistake, it's just a mistake. I've watched long time drivers do crap just like this. Just watch the tandems. Whatever way the wheel is turning, that is the mirror you need to fix your eyes upon. Obviously keep scanning in front of you, but the majority of your attention should be on that trailer. You're driving a trailer, not that truck.

When i was in my 20s working in construction my boss told me if i fall off the ladder i'm fired before i hit the ground.
From what i hear it's the same with trucking your fired before you hit something so you pay for all the damages. lol

Your accident is usually deemed preventable and you are dismissed.

There is a zero tolerance for accidents. Especially in training where you usually have someone is supposed to be paying attention to you in addition to your paying attention not to hit anything.

Ive had some wrecks in my time. Sometimes when bosses are told it's going to get damaged. LOL. And they say do it anyway. Ok....

For every thing that is a accident, I can think of 10 that was #### close. Those become a story or not. When I trained my spouse, much of what I did was actually focused on reducing whatever chances of her screwing it up. It's hard to describe but she did not have any accidents that year and it's a achievement for her considering other things that happened.

I can go on, but just this last few months we almost killed a man in our personal car on the freeway in Jaxville, stupid people running across the freeway in the face of 80mph rush hour herd coming on them. One got across the second saved himself under my bumper after I executed a flawless emergency stop only to understand we are about to get cremated by the herd coming up on us at 80. There was a awful lot of braking that night. But no one hit anyone.
