It's going to be really hard to break into unless you know people in the horse business. In that world, your reputation is *everything* and word of mouth is how you will get most of your clients.

I know this thread is old and I haven’t read all the comments, but I hauled horses for Brook Ledge Horse Transportation in 2022. They’re a good company with terminals in FL, KY, PA, Chicago, and a tiny lot in CA. Creech is another decent one in FL and MO, and Bob Hubbard as well in CA. Stay away from Sallee—I’ll leave it there.

Once I buy my own acreage here in the Dakotas I plan to start a business hauling horses and have a boarding barn to keep some steady income, and have some flatbeds too. But, the economy is down which means fewer horses need hauling. I wanted to haul horses again for Brook Ledge seasonally but it sounds like the demand is too low.

It’s a physically demanding job. Horses poop on everything and it must be sanitized. Not to mention, horses are huge, powerful creatures that frighten easily and can kill you in an instant if you don’t know what you’re doing. Even if you think you know what you’re doing, you may still be ignorant and get in a mess. It’s a sticky situation leading a stud down from the top stall in the trailer with an effeminate Colt in the pit you need to lead the stud past, and the stud thinks it’s breeding time.
