So I got done with school and started looking for a job. I actually had a lot of offers since we would be team driving.Anyways, I had a weird occurrence today.
I have had 3 DOT exams in the last 6 weeks. One for school, one for a company i was looking into and then today another one for a different company i decided to go with.
My driving partner and myself were set up with a DOT test for today and we went down to the office. Everything went along smooth until they took our blood pressure. Now i have NEVER in my life had a BP reading over 124, ever. Including the 3 other tests i have taken with in the last 6 weeks, the most recent, last week. Well, today the doc said i was at 139/90. She didn't even get the words out of her mouth before she was handing me a card and told me to make an apt with the doctor to get looked at.
Right after that, she measured my neck, she said it was 17 inches and started talking about by law i had to have a sleep study. Now i knew, from reading here and following some links posted here, she was lying. I argued with her and told her to show me the law she was talking about. She then fell back on the company required it. I pulled out my phone and called the woman at HR and put her on speaker phone. I asked her if the company did in fact require it when the only hint i might have sleep apnea was my neck size. The HR lady said no it was not something the company required.
After hearing that the doc backed off but still only issued me a 1 year.
Now the funny part. My driving partner is active reserve military and in very good shape. He got back from a 1 year tour less then 2 months ago and had his BP measured less then a week ago also at the base, he was below 120. Now, today, when he had his BP measured by the same doc today, it was also 139/90. What a coincidence!
It doesn't really matter, we both passed and now we can go to our regular docs and get a 2 year.
Just seemed funny to me we both had 139/90, both had been very recently been tested and we were both below 123/90 on every other test. Its very funny she handed us both cards to make an apt with another doc for her company.
I told the HR lady everything that happened today and they are now looking into the DOT doc.
The thing is, this isn't some quack doc. It is a doc for Methodist health care, they are huge in Memphis TN.
Just felt like a scam, any thoughts?
Anyone here of this before? DOT Physical scam

Doesn't sound right to me. You have paperwork for the previous tests to compare?
It's hard to trust anyone these days. Maybe they were having a bad day and just decided to say "what it, i don't want to be here right now". And now it's your problem. Sad but true.
Don't go back, right? -
Yep, I showed her the 2 year i had in my wallet! I wont be back and in the end its not a huge deal. I will just go get a second opinion and get my 2 year back. -
Just claim “ white coat syndrome”. It’s common.
They always feed be BS about diabetes. I have treated it with lifestyle for 15 years. No doctor has ever helped.Coover Thanks this. -

I had a dentist years ago that always insisted my bp was high... Once he even told me it was 180/120... I busted up laughing so hard I couldn't breath... My bp has always ran about 110/78 so I knew he was doing something wrong.
jammer910Z, Wisbowmen and Oldironfan Thank this.
