So, what can you tell us about it? There are no loads? Are you happy with them?

    Hi,

Landstar is a good company to Lease on to with a Hotshot. Not sure if they are accepting any right now, but if you call and speak to them they will advise.

Legally, It is not a requirement for certain HotShots. But with that being said, you are limited in certain states. With IFTA, it allows non-ON-The-Spot checks at every State Line who decides you could be circumventing the Fuel tax and pull you in for inspection. With it states know you are playing fair with Fuel Taxes across the U.S.. DOT are smart, especially in the SouthEast and they will check in the event of a audit. If you are getting your own authority, you are entered into a 18 month "Probationary Period" during which you have to provide what DOT and your State Authorities request. We have been thru 2, and have actually become friends with one of the auditors. They were very respectful and helpful regarding IFTA.
It is better to have, than not have, in our opinion. Also, you may get away with not having it for a year, but the first time you are Audited (And You Will Be 100% for sure, has to be done within your first 18 months) you can be off as little as 25.00 in fuel tax for one state (NY) and it could cost you HUGE. Is it worth it? Not a chance. We highly recommend having it. It's actually not that costly if your good at bookkeeping and use (Big Road's E-Logs for Hotshot OBD Ports).

    Hope this helps.

Ifta is as simple as it gets. Keep track of your miles and fuel purchases and at the end of the quarter spend an hour inputting the data.

As far as if it's needed or not, that guess by the combined gvwr of your unit. 26001 and up, you must have ifta or buy trip permits.

I choose not to lease on with anyone. I've been at it for a year and half. I book my own loads. It's better because you know better than anyone else what works on your trailer. Just my opinion. I haul loads for any of them.

What are most loads paying per mile there for you?

Do they have you run under their authority? Plate? Insurance?

Thanks for any info you can share.
