FYI - my hubby's experience in Mexico - hook, unhook, hook, unhook, have trailer inspected, have tractor inspected, over and over again! He was spoken to in VERY rude, broken english and held up for more time than anyone should be legally aloud to do. The mexicans he dealt with did not want American drivers there, they wanted to be able to cross over and pick up the trailers and then bring them back empty. The problem with that is that they were to slow, they were holding up trailers and taking their time bringing them back. I don't understand the whole reason to why, or how the company got permission for it's drivers to cross over, really I don't care, but I do know that he was not the only one - they weren't allowed to go over by themselves, had to team up and cross together, hositlity was to high.

I don't believe anyone on here was being rude to you - they see alot of questions, take time to answer them truthfully and then have someone totally ignore them - seems like a waste of time, but I think they do it just in case "this one might be the one" who will listen. I wish my husband could read this - but he's out making money for his family - so for now, I'll just sit back and wait for the next one - MAYBE he/she will listen - as for the "so and so's" - there's alot of us on here, it's our way of supporting our husbands and the trucking guys/gals that give everyday! We're actually living this life everyday, it's our way of life, so we do understand.

Now, this is useful stuff. And I didn't know they work through Mexican contractors. So I would assume all US companies do the same.

    Thanks!

This is the sort of thing I was looking for. I can see all that happening. Rudeness/language I don't mind, but lack of cooperative infrastructure between the two countries, and Mexican ways, would inevitably lead to situations like that. I guess if this were routine business, more people would be doing it.

    Thanks.

Well, what I get from those articles is: trucks can go over, but expect a mountain of bureaucracy.

Very true...and a mountian of cash. Do a google, it will take you awhile. There was an article published just last month in a national pub. (I can't recall which, sorry) regarding American companies entering Mexico, and the fact that many had given up, because they had to pay such a high price...up to and including Loss of equipment and loads.

Bureaucracy...can include the local guy on the corner of the street (no booth) collecting "road improvement tolls". This same guy, (yes I know him) and his croonies, have been collecting said toll on the same stretch of dirt road for over 20 years. It's only 2 blocks long. Try going down said road without paying, see what happens. You won't EVEN talk the local taxi driver into bypassing this "toll".
