Maverick is a great company to get your start and maybe even spend your entire career. I recommend it. Check out this lengthy thread
Heading For Little Rock! Maverick
Also check out Craig Ryan (who is no longer with Maverick but still lots of good videos) and Neill Shane Otts on Youtube.Puppage and Faintestidea Thank this. -
Funny that you mentioned Neil Otts. He’s the reason I’m skeptical about maverick-two months experience, and he’s now a securement instructor? Makes me wonder about the quality of their training now days.

Spent two years at Maverick, they're an excellent starter company with excellent securement training....indeed, some make a career there.

Maverick is a good company overall. They do what they do. Some consider them a mega, they do have a lot of trucks. Maybe one of the best flatbed training companies. You will learn the maverick way, nothing wrong with that. They do teach over securing your load. They have a dress code, stick to it when at any terminal and some shippers. They do have company people at lots of places.

I like Maverick. Ive kept an eye on their equipment, yard east of Little Rock off 40 for decades now.
Their staff when it's time to run the history check on employment were kind enough to educate me what Indiana's previous employer was doing to me with Black Listing. Once I learned that through Maverick, I checked their state laws to be sure it's legal or not (It was provided that company in IN never writes that bad word anywhere on paper. They can only verbalize it on the phone)
At that point I was told essentially to call back when enough years have passed to KILL their employment history all together dating 10 years. It's been almost 25 give or take now so... Im good. IN can stick it.
The actual doing of flatbedding and driving is not the problem. It's evaluating the people, culture, how they work day to day and so forth. I think they managed quite well.
I do not live very far from there.
It would behoove you to learn about Little Rock and our gang activity and where at night. Usually Vice Lords, MS13 and a couple of others fighting for drug sales etc. There are parts of Little Rock you do not go into once the sun goes down. It's that blunt. University, south of 630, 65th, Stagecoach (We had three killings so far in the last few days by gun) and so forth.
I am a licensed carry and I don't even go that far downtown when I have to for that reason. The authorities have made it plain they are tossing the MS13 back south of border and jailing the rest. But are like weeds. You cannot pull em all. Not just yet.
another thing you will have to get used to is Arkansas is a little bit... backward. If something funny happens where everyone points at us and makes a really bad laughing against our stupid hill people and so on... it will happen right here along that nice straight blacktopped 40 any time. You cannot rely on it.
Half the state is still gravel. But we are working on that.
Finally not least. The weather. We are fixing to move into what I call furnance season. We have had several weeks of 110+ some days and 105's most days. Once end of this month comes we expect to be 130 in the shade some days.
After Sept starts begins tornado season, then mud season before ice season. Wait 10 minutes and listen for the single note siren call telling you to get underground where possible. And that means where you are they are following a twister coming for you. I am not trolling or kidding. We have dozens a year. I think personally Ive been affected by about 30 so far in the last 20 years here. One passed my house wrecking everything, another passed overhead and a third took 50 power poles from my driveway clear to the rail tracks while I gamed on the computer one day. (Wouldnt that be a trick, to be killed by a tornado coming through my house... and never see it or hear it coming what with the battery support my computer had) I finally had to stop when the battery insisted on being fed after a hour.
Traffic in a car? Prepare yourself for 75 mph on our interstates as soon the signs up, and 65 on two lane roads. We have been that fast for years. 90 during rush on US67 is common. Soon to be I-57.Last edited: Jul 13, 2018

Maverick is not a bad choice starting out. Decent pay. Good training.
The most notable thing I can make you aware of in making a decision is that they (used to?) do a very thorough physical. They bring in specialists that check all your major joints. Knees sent a bunch home on the bus when I went through it. They also do a heart stress test. So, just be aware that the odds of getting sent home is a little bit higher with Maverick.Faintestidea Thanks this.
