Stevens is probably one of the best training companies out there. They are VERY strict on safety and HOS compliance. The time and expense they spend training you really pays off once you leave the company if you decide to do so. You will definantely know what you are doing when you complete training. I think Adrian and or Bill Cheney (one of them) is the current safety director.
Compared to the other training companies, you can at least say you know how to do city driving (think Chicago, NYC Hunts Point), long haul (avg trip 1500 miles), Mountain driving, and most of all time management and trip planning. All of this is a requirement to be learned BEFORE your first solo trip. Once solo you WILL NOT get assigned a crappy truck. All of their trucks are late model and very well mantained. The oldest truck is probably 2 1/2 yrs old. They Run mostly KW T2000 with C15 CAT eng. Same is true with the reefers you'll pull.
Anyone know anything about Stevens Transport?

Stevens will push and test you. They stress safety, until you are sick of hearing it, but it helps it to stick. My frustration comes on the weekends, when us new drivers are on a short leash, and have to call in for all these verbal talks, and there is only a handful of people working at the office, so you sit on hold for 15 minutes to 45 minutes, so that you can roll.
As for seeing New York a lot, not during the first 60 days solo. No grad fleet drivers are allowed to solo drive into new york city. As for them being the best of the worse, I don't know, but I am learning what I need to know, getting paid to do it, and enjoying my time on the road.
And this weekend, I don't have to deal with the office...I have to drive all weekend, to make my delivery Hoorah. -

They use ThermoKing Reefers. They're pretty quite, besides you get used to them pretty quick.

When I get out of CDL training I have narrowed my search down to PAM. It seems to be a good copmpany from what I hear from "other people". I don't know how reliable that info is though. Anyone have experience with them? Thanks everyone for the input.
Cheers,

Stevens came in to roadmaster when i was there and they brought cheap cold cuts that he looked like he picked up at the dollar store. The point is that if they are CHEAP on trying to win you over what else are they cheap on!!!!!

You say that Stevens is the "Best of the worst" - how is that? Are you currently in training right now? If so, where?
