Johnson explains reasons for closing trucking business

Quoting the above mentioned link:
He told the news media that he had set up the company as a mission to give job opportunities for those who had been denied them.
Part of that mission was the Driving For Inner City Development program, which trained truck drivers for the company at a lot Johnson owns at 4319 Camp Ground Road.
But Johnson said Tuesday that he could not raise the grant money he needed to keep the program going and that he didnt have enough local customers to make it profitable. Brown-Forman Corp. was C.W. Johnson Xpresss only local customer, Johnson said......
Bunch of crap to me. Yea, set those guys up and tell them that he is going to help them. In the end he shows how them how someone really helps them.....just leaves them in the "lurch". Yes, I am still disgruntled about how the whole situation was handled. I just feel bad for those guys who were promised all kinds of stuff about getting help when no one else would help them and now they will have a hard time going anywhere else with issues on their records. No one is hearing about those guys. We only hear about poor Mr Johnson. I can almost guarantee that multi million dollar man will loose no sleep and go on to his next business.
Again quoting the above mentioned link:
He previously was president and CEO of Active Transportation Co., which hauled trucks for Ford Motor Co. from its Kentucky Truck Plant.
Johnson formed Active Transportation with Alice and Wade Houston. At one time, Black Enterprise magazine ranked Active Transportation among the top 100 black-owned firms in the country.
Johnson sold his share of Active Transportation to a former partner in July 2001.
He recently discussed with Business First his plans to use private funds to continue to train unemployed and at-risk people to drive trucks. He also planned to help employees enrolled in the program establish good credit and sell them homes that he would build.
Johnson made no mention of plans to close his company during an interview for anarticle about his driver training program, which appeared in Business Firsts Aug. 15 print edition
Please Mr Johnson ........STAY OUT OF THE TRUCKING INDUSTRY. How many times and different companies does it take for you to realize you cant make it work. We do not need for you to play with our lives like toys with your millions. We have families and children. It does not just take money to make a trucking business work. It also takes firm knowledge of this business industry. Take your money and go play with another kind of business. -
There was only one plus to them going out of Business. Some of the lanes were actually owned by US Xpress. Those lanes reverted back to USX, and SOME of the drivers were offered there old jobs back at USX. But, if they didnt come from USX befor going to CWJ, they didnt have a job to fall back to.
-
Huh? I though when CWJX split from USX they split completely? Had not heard that bit of info. Hummm.

I am one of the drivers for CW Johnson that was laid off on Friday.. I do have the letter that someone spoke of earlier and it is exactly that. I was empty in MS on Friday when they told me to dead head home. I have worked for them for 1 year and have called at least 50 companies since Friday and have found Nothing.. CW helped me get my CDL but now I am stuck with nothing, I have a wife and 2 kids and no job. The drivers that were picked up by other companies are drivers that came from other companies and are not ones that CW gave the chance to, they had no record so it is easy for them to get a job. The rest of us are happy CW helped us but it was short lived and right now is proving that it is not worth a dime because not one person will hire me.
-
In the least driver, check with your local ESC for unemployment. Don't give up. I am fully aware of the opportunity he gave you and in the end left you hanging. I have heard that Celadon has entertained the idea of picking up some of the drivers to work for them and maybe you could work that angle.

Depending on how serious the offense is, USX does hire people with criminal backgrounds. My first student had a feloney on his record. He got hired, and was by far the best student I ever trained. But he had to jump thru some major hoops to get officially hired.
The only other thing that I can think of, if enuf time has lapsed since your "crime", to hire a lawyer, and see about getting it exsponged off your record.
