Last time I had trouble with that, it was just after getting a new windshield put it. The dash cam stayed up, but the factory cam fell off. I just unplugged it and tossed it in the glove box.

They put it back up though after a PM. Fortunately it’s possible to unplug it without it appearing so. :biggrin_255:

Here is the funny part (I’m telling you they do it on purpose to mess with us)

Theres a switch that turns it off for about 15 minutes or so… Probably for construction zones where it goes crazy. So here I am, clicking the button like a lab rat.

I would love access to those mechanic computers so I can program it to my liking. I’d give the switch the longest timer possible. I’d turn the volume waaay down for it and all the other alerts as well.

So my w9 is officially totaled, I’m going to buy it back and the plan is keep it as a spare but this is all still tenative on getting insurance finished up and not getting some stupid interest rate, I am trying to get thoughts in my head on the next move though.

one of the trucks I’m looking at already has a no tilt 5th wheel so I’m curious anyone has an apu and an upright hydro tank behind the bunk if they will both fit? All the apu mounts I’ve looked at seem to sit above the frame, I don’t like the look of a seperate tank down on the rails and don’t want to give up fuel capacity to split a tank, I don’t really know jack about APUs but i know you can’t idle the new stuff

local TK dealership said right around $15k for one installed, I haven’t tried any other yet, or the carrier dealership (if I should even bother)

Not sure if it was a TK thing or custom but the units on Tralo’s trucks didn’t have anything above the frame rail. Also these newer trucks aren’t as finicky about idling as previous ones. They’ll do an automatic dpf warmup to build heat in the filter to burn out the condensation.

I have an Espar bunk heater and can’t pencil out an APU. Between below zero temps and running the a/c I’ve maybe idled all thru the night a dozen times this year. I actually idle more during the day in the summer than when I sleep because of my dog. In the summer I’ll wake up and shut the truck off once it cools down around 10 or 11. I don’t bump my engine up when I idle either, unless it’s cold and not maintaining 180 degrees. I haven’t been around a new Cummins so I don’t know what their manual says.

Sorry for the rambling but basically yes there is a way to mount an APU cleanly with clear top rails and the emission system won’t implode on these new trucks if you have to idle.

Oxbow, wore out and abyliks Thank this.

all good, I don’t know anything about the new stuff so I’m interested to see options.

I’d actually rather have the apu then the wet kit, hopefully I’ll have the kw back together for spring/early summer when I would actually need it so could be easier just to swap trucks

of course, I may wind up working more with a new truck if I have the ability to keep driving it instead of having to lay under it all the time

Saw that one on the assbook and thought it looked pretty decent, there’s definately a fine line on the stand ups before they start looking goofy with that huge roof cap, the flat tops are definitely easier to make look better where when I see one on the road now you almost have to do a double take to see it’s not a 389

progressive actually totaled my truck this week, I bought it back, the guy that owns the shop I use said give him a few days he wants to take it all apart and see if he can straighten the front pieces out and get her back together, if that’s the case I’ll probably just leave the cracked hood on for now and run her through the winter so I can order what I want instead of a “this is close enough” truck on the lot

Friend of mine called down to Fitzgerald and they said it’s about $20k to convert the cab to a flat roof.

    Rugerfan and Oxbow Thank this.

That’s for everything. New interior pieces for the cab roof and new interior for the bunk where the hole was filled in. They told him as they do more it will get cheaper as they refine the whole process.

I told him if I spent $20k to do that I’d be so mad at myself the first time I smacked my head going back into the bunk. Lol
