Anyone still running 24.5" wheels?

It's like buying a really big ice cream cone. To one person it's a whole lotta ice cream, to another it's a double scoop.

And if a 13 doesn't have 2 overdrives, it doesn't have 4 more gears than a 9 either because all those extra gears are splits too.

24lp 3.55 gear fro16210b. 70 mph at 1525/1550. I prefer the look of a 24 wheel with 2.5 holes an a low pro tire. I would like to swap to a 3.42 rear gear to help drop rpms for higher speeds. If I was to spec a truck I would run a lp 24 with 342 an a 13speed. Most of today's trans have a .73/.74 final gear so 10/13/18 wouldn't really make a difference other than pulling, but final hole be about the same. If you want to run 80-90mph I would run 24 tall with 336 but gonna need power to cruise in the big hole under 70.

A 13 double over the old ones (RTOO) I believe and somebody correct me if I'm wrong was a tranny that had like a .63 ratio in the big hole. I don't have the specs in front of me but it was actually a triple overdrive transmission as 11, 12, and 13 were all over a 1:1 ratio. Technically speaking most of todays 13 and 18spds are considered a double overdrive as 17th and 18th are less than a lower than 1:1. Typically we call em a 13 double over and they have long legs even when the truck has a set of 3.70 or 3.90 rear gears its still a triple digit ride.

Honest to god if it'd handle the torque of my motor I would have a setup like the old 13 double over. Because with that setup you have low cruise rpms on the highway and rear gears that will pull best of both worlds right there.

Today's Eaton Fuller Super 13 and 18 transmissions are NOT double overdrive transmissions! They are basically a 9 speed overdrive main transmission with an under drive splitter section. That means when the splitter button is back it is in under drive and when forward it is in direct!
E-F 13 speeds of years ago before the Super 13's and 18's were available with either an under drive or overdrive splitter section. Most common 13's were a 9 speed direct main with an overdrive splitter. You also could not preselect the splitter on these and also expect long life! The introduction of the Super 13 and 18 solved the preselect deal! An old 13 with a 9 speed overdrive main and overdrive splitter was the only true double-over transmission that was produced! The mythical 15 double over was a mechanical impossibility! Can't have two overdrive gears in one box!

379 is correct about the RTOO.

Also the 13 and 18 were that same before and after the "super" was branded. The "super"had nothing to do with the gear set inside, or the ability to preselect.
