Anyone still using a flip phone?

Depends on WHY the power fails.

Landlines are susceptible to being damaged and destroyed during natural disasters.

 

To hell with flip phones, I'm going back to smoke signals.

 

On road, off road, ice, snow, mud, mountains, wind, I drive circles around you kid.

I miss the flip phones. Although the entire industry now seems to be run almost entirely from apps downloaded to drivers personal devices. I don't know if you can even work in this industry anymore without a smartphone which sucks. Oh then of course you absolutely must allow the apps to track you and have full access to everything on your personal device. Welcome to trucking in 2021. Even George Orwell himself couldn't have invisioned it.

 

Orwell was a prophet! He predicted it all. I have a DuraXV that's a flip phone with bluetooth capabilities. I tether my tablet to it when I want to use it for navigation, Internet or apps. The rest of the time it's all disabled and isn't always in my pocket. I get lots of strange looks when people realize I'm not carrying a phone or that I have a flip.

 

I probably would be if I wasn't a truck driver.

Didn't get a smart phone until I got my CDL near the end of 2015. Simply never had a use for a smart phone. If I wanted to talk to somebody I just called them when I got home from work. Had a flip phone just for emergencies and thus almost never used it.

 

I upgraded to an IPhone 13, I guess if I was techy I would appreciate what it has to offer, the biggest thing for me was the 5G capability of the phone. I'm convinced the 4g signals by certain carriers are slowed down, making you feel like you have to upgrade to the newest technology, I'm not a fan of that, but I also need connectivity while I'm away from the house.

 

That's actually smart! I might start doing that. My plan was to get another phone basically a business line to have a work phone and a personal phone. Of course after consulting with a tax professional to see if I can use that as a tax deduction. Your way of doing things could work in the meantime.

 

@Bret1984 something I've learned with this new technology is the latest phones offer an e-sim for the phone which allows you to have dual sim card capabilities, letting you have a personal line and a business line if I understand correctly. That type of technology is beyond my pay grade, I only have a regular SIM, but the newest I-Phones, and I'd assume Android, offer that upgrade.
