Go talk to bus drivers with their class Bs, most places WILL put you on automatic only unless you have a sweet deal with the DMV or self-test.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm curious if anyone that tested for their class A license actually has the "auto only" restriction. We've "heard" about people having it, but I know of no one that has actually seen it 1st hand.

Anyway, I don't wanna hijack the OP's thread with this. I'm pretty sure maverick is all autos.

I have seen it, CFI needed teams so they offered a fast class for spouses of their drivers. They were promised automatic trucks as long as they were there because they trained on automatics and had the restriction. Not sure if any are left.

CFI is a company right? I'm talking state issued CDL from the DMV.

CFI was a company. Their cdl they got from the state if Missouri were automatic only restricted. Met numerous of them when my wife and I worked there.

CFI was later changed to the current Conway truckload. I was around CFI most the 90's. Cliff Miller set up that spouse training thing with Crowder College down at Neosho, MO. That was right after CFI starting buying several of the, then new, 3 peddle Eaton AMT's. They still had it going on when I left in July '99.

I was just about to reply when I read this post.

I got my CDL and tested on a manual, never heard of that auto restriction, and then after CDL school I ending up at Abilene. They train in automatic manual transmissions which are a dream to drive. So just get through school on a manual and then you can find a company that is NOT a mega and autos.

I really don't see the problem with autos. I can down shift just like a manual when I place it in manual control and the engine will slow me down just like any other engine and the thing backs like a car.... Smooth as butter.

Careful... That's what the buggy whip makers said about the fancy horseless carriage.

    Just a growing niche...

Yeah, I hear what you are saying. They were on my "short list" but it's looking like Wil-Trans is where I am going to try as a "starter company" once I get my Class A. Not sure of their fleet of automatics vs. manuals..
