Why would it matter to the IRS if drivers is using the carrier equipment? I figure long as we pay our taxes that would be fine. This job sounds like great opportunities I haven't signed up yet still reading reviews.

It's not just the IRS everyone has to worry about though. Who does the mandatory pre-employment drug screens with BBB? The road test? Background checks and 10 year work history? Who maintains all those files? What about random drug screens? Log books? Who's on the hook for any inspection violations that occur, BBB or the shipper?
Lot of things here not being answered adequately for any driver and most carriers to work with them.TrueGritTrucker and Toomanybikes Thank this. -
Yeah all that New Deal stuff is archaic nonsense in today's world. The last thing any of us needs to be worried about nowadays is old age!TrueGritTrucker Thanks this.

Which taxes? You do know there are different requirements if you are paid as a 1099 v W-2, right? I would seriously consider getting an attorney, if you are unsure of exactly what is going, I assure you its just a touch more complicated than just paying your taxes. Your post is exactly why there is some serious issues.
Let me give you a hint, go to the guidance provided by the federal and state agencies for determination of contractor/employee status, one of the big things will be do you use the equipment of the hiring corporation. The carriers are asking for trouble as well, in my opinion. (social security, medicare, income taxes, workman's comp, obamacare requirement, etc. come to mind) -
Sign up first then find out what's in it. Haha. Don't forget to read their no warranty and limited liability clause, nice!

The official word on i/c vs employee is found in this free IRS document...http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fss8.pdf
If you are considering this, suggest hiring a CPA. You can deduct their fees. There are possible advantages to 1099-ing if you know the rules and play above board.
BBH is a "technology company"...that already makes me wonder about their veracity.TrueGritTrucker Thanks this. -
Rightamondo!
Who is the carrier in this scenario? Who's DOT number is on the door? The independent contractors? BlueBoodhound's? The Clients? How is any of this insured? Some company insurance company just going to insure any one with an ICC that can pull random contractors off a board? How is the DOT going to audit the company? Are they now responsible for auditing the contractor?
How does a truck driver have a full time job yet still have hours on the clock to work at this crap? -
I copied the discussion below from their facebook page under reviews. This company is not responsible for anything. All they are doing is providing a platform for carriers to post loads and in which the driver has uploaded their documents as qualified drivers. Both the carriers and drivers are responsible for verification and reporting HOS. They claim on their website that all drivers through the service are insured but it doesn't mention with who or the terms. Of course, there is a huge no warranty and limited liability clause as well, so they are for sure not guaranteeing anything. Of course, I am assuming if the carrier signs up that they are precluded from hiring the driver outside of the system or they maybe required to pay the company a finders fee like an employment agency(????)
The problem I think with this... well, other than they can't quite figure out what they want to be... is that it just adds another layer of confusion for no real benefit, and possibly for a whole range of risks. The whole thing is a little too secret, meaning this should all be available on their website already.

Simply sounds like they are trying to be a temp agency but without actually having employees as drivers. Ain't gonna fly, not in today's regulatory and legal nightmare.
TrueGritTrucker Thanks this. -
Exactly. I guess in part they could be viewed as an expensive job board, but the problem with that is probably locks in the carrier not to hire the true independent contractor outside the system. I see no reason for carriers to get involved in this but that's just my opinion.
It's the same people that run road dog drivers which is a temporary trucking staffing firm.
