The 4CK was the last of the PEEK. The previous where all 3406B PEEK. 1986 through 1991. The C pump does not have the adjustment screws like Bs. The plungers are also different in the Cs. To convert to a manual, it is suggested that a 3ZJ or 8PN pump be used, the last models of the ATAAC Bs. The 4CK was rated at 460 HP instead of 425HP from the factory.

You have done your research and seem very knowlegable on the CAT truck engines if I offended you in any way it was unintenional. I just wanted to clarify to others reading this post that a guy can sure go backwards mix matching parts from diff serial # engines however the proper research you can really improve one as well. Rolling the dice is never a good idea. Not just the pre fix but whole serial number is best the prefix is only the designation horsepower could be diff. For instance a truck was brought to me getting hot no power after inframe at kenworth, a cat dealer they wrote a 5 instead of 6 on last digit of engine serial number. They put 425hp spec parts in a350 eng injectors were diff pistons were same size yes compression no.
HotRod359 Thanks this. -
That is exactly what I was getting at, sl3406 said no need to convert the pump to a B or mechanical but like I said its best to or yoU won't have much. I am an equipment man by trade and have seen engines marked C with a manual pump. But they won't work on a truck. My 3406 is a 4ck with an 8PN pump with 110 mm plungers and barrels instead of 90mm custom exhaust manifold with turbo and blanket, pistons from a genset application(not telling which one) and injectors from a marine application fuel cooler and I worked the timing advance over. It pulled 600 plus on the dyno for 45 min with a 900 degree pyro and steady 180 coolant temp its peak # were lot better. Yes I own and run COOTERS diesel service specilizing in high output cats. By the way I average 6 mpg which aint bad

By the way u left out the 1MM E truly the best of the best.

Im enjoying andnlearning from our discussion, It takes a while for me to take it in. I was adv 7.59 mpg with my 7FB 350. I just hope I will be able to do the same with the 4CK, I think I will be able to..

What ratio was the 7fb a 3.70 and u said it was direct not overdrive. 7.5 is a pretty tall order I think it would take a .73 final ratio in the trans with at least 3.70 to do it and a good tune on the engine. What are u hauling if u don't mind saying

I have a 3406C PEEC engine in a 1994 Frieghtliner cabover. It showed 620 hp and 1970 foot pounds of torque on Antrim Diesels' Dyno back in march

oh I left out 517 to the rollers or ground as most call it.

But for how long and what was pyro, at 900 on pyro and 180 eng temp mine live all day it pulled a lot more but went to heating up a little
