Looking to see if anyone out there with an ELD exempt truck has been inspected yet? Want to know if the DOT guys are rolling with the 1999 or earlier engine year exemption, or if they are giving guys a hard time? Specifically those with engines made in 1999 in trucks MY2000 and newer. Reason I ask is the truck I’m going to buy now is a MY2000 W900L (6/99 build date) with a 1999 Series 60.
Anyone with an exempt truck stopped yet?

Just make sure the Engine Model Year is 1999 or older if that is your goal. Build date doesn't matter for ELD.
And if you do get that truck, every time you pull in a scale you are going to get put under a magnifying glass I'm sure.BUMBACLADWAR and bzinger Thank this. -
Gumper Thanks this.

I understand the truck MY doesn’t matter, but there’s also lots of confusion on this issue. Curious if any hot shot DOT cops are harassing guys based on their model year versus the engine year.
As a side note, does anyone know what determines the engine year? I assume it’s whatever the emissions year it is built for rather than the build date. As in an engine built 11/98 would be a MY99 engine? -
Yes engine year is determined by the meets emission standards for xx year sticker

Read the engine serial #. If the first 4 digits are "06R0" then:
- it's NOT, repeat, NOT a factory (detroit) reman.
- it's a REAL pre-2000 motor
-
I had the guy fax me the engine rebuild paperwork that as the engine serial number. Unfortunately he didn’t get it faxed until I was out of the office for the day, and the suspense is killing me. The truck was built 6/99. I thought that’d make it a 1999.
No one with a pre-2000 truck has had a roadside inspection since the mandate yet? -

Some detroit s60's were rebuilt by factory and as such, got a new "in-service date" of when the factory released it back into the world.
If this is the case, then that motor will have a engine code of "06RE" and that will mean it's NOT exempt.
