DoubleDear, how much of a liability would a 48' reefer be in finding loads? There's a couple decent ones at the local dealer for under 7k, but I suspect the industry is really expecting 53's at this point.
-
Hey Pissedoff... thank you for the example and the maths on one of your trips. Great contribution to the thread!

Where I come from we say "how much money - that much music"!
My choice is 2005 around $30,000 53' with TK of 5-6000 hours. That should hopefully provide some more solid reliability to the customers, less headaches and more loads to be able to accept for me.
Any thoughts? -
I personally no ten 5 million dollar a year brokerages that went under recentlly. These people have been doing this ''business'' for 40 years and are more then successful ''business'' people..
There knowledge is above and beyond. There reputation is indescribable. There customer base is 100%.I am getting at the fact that these people are very well seasoned..and by no means are they (under qualified)...
I do not want to discourage you and your plans, but i have a question..
If these people with 40 years in this business and 3,000 trucking companies shutting there doors,i have to ask you this...
WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU CAN SOMEHOW ''MAKE IT HAPPEN''...What i am getting at is read the writing on the wall....
If these multi-million dollar firms with 100% great paying customers have failed after 40 years exp...What makes you think you can ''do it'',and be successful...I am curious to no.
NUMBERS DO NOT LIE.FACTS ARE FACTS...
EXAMPLE:::
My buddy in NY has avery big carpet install business. He also has huge warehouses, stores and 30 years of connections. He has been sucessful with this for 30 years now.He is married and kids and lives in a 500,000 dollar home and has enjoyed the fruits of his labor..I talked to him the other day...He can not believe what the economy has done to this business...
Knowing all he has told me and all his knowledge about the business of flooring,i have to ask myself why?..Why would i risk all my money to get into the flooring business?100% Knowinglly what he has told me...
Bottom line he has had to sell some stores, warehouses and no one is buying flooring for there homes...Why would i challange that fact..
If he of all people is falling what makes me think ''I'' CAN DO IT....Afetr my coversastion with him i ''read the writing on the wall'' and i will not persue the flooring business like i did many years ago...I would be a fool to think i could roll the dice and come out on top, knowing what he has told me....
Moral of my story::: LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN THERE AND ARE HERE KNOW...Gweko Thanks this. -
Not everyone has the time to devote to pounding the pavement finding companies to haul for. And some companies won't deal with the carrier. My daughter works for a company that we could haul for, but the owner said they won't deal with anyone but a broker, because if anything happens they'd be sure to get someone else to get the load to its destination.
Plus, if we can't afford the extra insurance and go under someone else's authority (be it a broker or trucking co), they would carry the extra insurance, pay for the extra states, and find the loads. Sometimes they're well worth it.Last edited: Feb 1, 2009

I think part of your job is keeping newbs out of it... and you're #### good at it lol. Very enterprising. -
There is no work out there to be had....and the work that is there is being cut by cut throats for 1.00 a mile....
As it sits now there is very, very slim chance any load is even paying 2.00 a mile....80-1.60 a mile.. -
