It is quite possible to build cabovers that meet stringent safety standards. Sweden has set the bar for truck cab safety since the 1960's with the Swedish Cab Safety Standards. They are the toughest in the world. Volvo and Scania take it a step farther with their own in-house impact tests. Since 99% of all trucks used in long haul in Europe are cabovers, they are designed to be safe.
FWIW, The Volvo VN series cabs meet those tough standards.

Technology is just a thing not your life to depend on. 70's will have their cabovers and conventionals back on the road before you know it.:smt106
shmuck359 Thanks this. -
FWIW, most companies that have tractor age restrictions also conveniently offer "lease rip off plans". Coincidence?

Burky, take it easy on the boy. What you are saying is true, but I understand where he's coming from. He just longs for a time from the past that he thinks was better than today, because he never got to see how things were, and to decide for himself whether to keep what he has or to change to something current.
It's kind of like shaving with a straight razor, as opposed to an electric shaver. I use a straight razor, even though those were common before I was born. I wanted to try it, and decide for myself whether I wanted to shave with a blade. I saw no reason to simply dismiss that as "archaic" just because no one else happened to be doing it, or because other people might have regarded that as "archaic". It works well for me. You just need to keep it sharp.
Okay, that may not be the best analogy. But perhaps our young buck here simply likes trucks of that vintage so he can be like his dad or some other relative who may have drove those for living, so he can attempt to experience what it may have been like in their hey-day. I went through a similar phase with old chevy pickups. I was partial to the 1967-72 body style. -

All I said was I like the 70's. Then he begins to tell me negative stuff.

I just find it amazing that the people who have the most nostalgia for the 70's are the people that didn;t have to live through the 70's.

For the rest of you, just remember that if you read through his threead carefully, he doesn;t want to see you in a modern cabover tractor of any kind. What he has in mind is that the old cabovers from the 70's are going to be resurrected from the places where they currently rest, they are going to be brought back up to the same standards and degrees of comfort that they had when new, and you are going to be back in them. So when the bossman takes away your 2006 KW, and hands you the keys to a good as new 70's Road Commode with a 250 Cummins with no turbo on it, and the same spring suspensin that it had when it was new, don't say that I didn't tell you so.
I tried (desparately) to inject a little bit of logic into the childhood dreams of this young gent. If he believes that 1070 trucks are suddenly going to start rolling down the road and replace all the current ones, that's his happy delusion and I wish him well with it. personally, it looks to me like he has spent a little too much time watching "Nickat Nite" and absorbing the shows on there.
But, as you bounce across the country and up the mountains in your shiny "new" cabover, you will have the comfort of a great paint job to ease your aching back. -
Well, there are ways to accomplish want he wants. He could take, say a '90 Pete, and make it resemble a '75 Pete. The square headlight pods can swapped out for round ones. He could get ahold of a 3-spoke steering wheel and install that. Just that would go a long way towards what he might like, unless he actually wants the spring suspension, rigid mounted cab, no A/C, or no power steering. Speaking just for myself, I'll pass.

Pulling old 70's coe's out of junkyards and putting them to work running otr is just a fantasy. SOme kids sneak a look at Penthouse, others peak at old KW"s with kudzu growing up over the cab.....I know which one I like best! ehehehehehehehe
