Dont be mad at me but heres a thought in the hot rodding industry lately there has been a boom of " resto mods" which basically means old on the outside but everything else is new. Im not saying its wise but Im sure if you really wanted to you could take the old cab off and place it on a new chassis. Then you get the 70s style and modern day suspension and power plants and although I love the way cab overs look I wouldnt even want to think about how hard it would be to redo everything nessecary to pull this same concept off.
You never know a few years ago every trucker I knew said it wasnt possible nor smart to have a customizing shop for trucks but look now its on tv. Its just to bad they dont show the entertaining stuff with the motor and trans if they do anything at all. -
It is completely possible to do soemthing like that as a customized deal, and I would never not be in favor of that. In fact, in the future I would like to get my hands on an old cabover and redo it with an updated air ride and some other niceties. But that would be strictly as a toy /pleasure vehicle for my own purposes. It's unrealistic financially to try to do something like that for commercial use. A truck is a financial tool for making a living, and as with any other investment you invest the least amount of money for the greatest amount of return. If you spend twice the amount of money on your truck as the guy next to you, no shipper will hand you twice as much money to haul his freight.
I like old trucks, but I like driving the current ones for a living. I have no desire to put 130k miles a year on a 1970's truck. I have great admiration for the people that did that, but those times are past. -
Yeah, now every body wants to "trick their truck" because of that show, I bet the aftermarket business is going to notice an increase in sales, just like when discovery channel put out all those bike shows, all the yuppie wannabes started going out and buying those overly chromed custom "choppers"
