I didn't start the thread, and I certainly don't have 5 trucks. Not sure if you're talking about me though.
How may I ask did you even find insurance without experience?? I had nearly one million accident free miles,And because I was a new company my only choice was to go through Progressive,... They may sell one time trip insurance outside the radius which will have a time limit on it,..But do not be fooled,..THEY WILL NOT COVER YOU OUTSIDE THE RADIUS,......I wouldn't take that chance,...
There are at least 2 other companies that have since jumped in to fill the void. Universal, and the one I'm through, National Casualty. Newbs get hired on to lots of companies that don't self insure. Policies have to be available to them, and they certainly aren't required to team train the new guys for 6 months. Watkins-Shepard for example is only a week to 10 days, then solo. The policies exist, and they have to cover the worst risk on the payroll. But, as outlined in the insurance thread, there have been a few that have confirmed that even Progressive allows something like 20% out of radius.
Yeah I really have no intention of running illegally in any manner. I'm just saying that that information agrees with what my agent told me. I'll comb the policy for fine print. I'm sure it has some stern wording in there somewhere. I'll let you know what I find out.
That seemed random. I'm not sure if the implication is that these questions are innappropriate here, or if there is never supposed to be any recordable moment that you find these things out...
MedicineMan who are talking about that has 5 trucks???????????????? Hes prob like me leased on and everything was taken care of and he only ran local or to maybe a 2 or three surrounding states. I started driving off and on for 33 yrs mostly for a company driver, local states, leaves you kinda dumb to some areas of trucking!
Which states and how many states will dictate how much your plate will cost.. Figure upwards of $2000 - $2200 for a 48 state plate as a general rule.. That's just for the plate and permits.. You'll still have to pay your 2290 each year for $550 per truck, and if you want haz mat & heavier than 80,000lbs. It'll be slightly more.. (some states will allow you to register yourt truck for more than 80K.. It saves on overweight permits if your going to do that?)
