I'm not affiliated with them in any way--but I have heard/read good things.

It appears that most of their fleet are Volvo trucks--suhweeeet!!!

Unless you're former military and/or like being treated like a robot slave, TMC did you a favor. They're owned by Fed stooges. You would have been nothing but meat in the seat to them.

I've been looking at getting into truck driving for the last year and I'm finally pulling the trigger on it. Specifically I want to do flatbed (although I wouldn't rule out other types of freight). I load and unload trucks all day in my current job and I'm familiar with a lot of load securement techniques and DOT regulations. I got my medical card on my own and I've been studying for my CLP which I feel I could easily pass at this point.

One of my coworkers worked for TMC and got his CDL through them and had mostly good things to say so I applied to their CDL training program. I received a phone call the following day asking if I had any questions. I asked how long their hiring process normally takes and if they would need anything from me in the meantime. They said they would verify my employment history and go from there. I asked that they not contact my current employer as I haven't given my two weeks notice yet.

I didn't hear anything for a few days so I called this afternoon to ask about the status of my application. They told me that my application had been reviewed and they would not be moving forward with me. I asked why and they wouldn't give me an answer.

My other plan was to go to community college and get my CDL through them, which is probably the route I'll go and I feel is a good option. Regardless I'm feeling a bit discouraged and disappointed. I was hoping to work for TMC to gain some experience. I felt that their recruiting/hiring department was very much lacking people skills. They talked to me like working for TMC is some big privilege and honor. They weren't very friendly. They might otherwise be a fine company with good drivers.

I'm trying not to get down on myself too hard. I've been trying to think of a few other companies that are worth applying to. I've heard Maverick is a good company. Melton seems to be okay but not as much home time. I wouldn't touch Western Express with a 10 foot pole. Not sure if TMC would be worth reapplying to after I get my CDL or not.

Anyways, let me hear your thoughts and advice.

Why wouldn't you touch Western Express if you're looking to gain some experience?

I had that exact thought and you beat me to the punch. TMC has a look and a brand of truck that drivers love for some odd reason lol

Lol that sounds like TMC. They really do think they are just God's gift to trucking. From what I can tell they're not bad as far as starter companies go IF you can deal with the egos. Maybe check out Melton after you get your CDL.

Stuff like this-

Regular occurrence at work with Western Express loads. Their equipment is usually is awful condition (this trailer looked older than me) and their drivers frequently report that the company treats them like dogsh*t.
