I appreciate this affirmation. I'm glad to know it's not just me. I know it's a numbers game based on statistics and papers laying in front of these recruiters. They haven't met me and can't get to know me from a short phone call or some papers in front of them. I know I am still new and still have a lot to learn but I've been around trucks for a while, I'm very mechanically inclined, I take a lot of pride in the work I do and this is something I really want and I'm willing to work for.

I guess that's one thing I don't really like about the trucking industry- the hiring process. The whole idea of "recruiters", being hired or passed on without an in-person interview. But with trucking companies being based all over the country, I suppose it's a necessary evil.

Well after a week and a half of class and plenty of studying I finally took my CLP test today. I took General Knowledge 1&2, as well as the combinations and air brake tests and passed all three. I'm very excited to have my permit and eager to get into some on-road training.

I might go back in a week or so and take the doubles and triples and tanker tests as well. I don't plan on needing either one but probably not a bad thing to have.

TMC is a bunch of pickier pricks than Prime is. Think they are all that and a bag of chips. He avoided that bullet.

Get as many endorsements now that you can… even if you think you don’t need them right now having them will be worth their weight in gold when you do need them… And it’s easier to go ahead and get them now with everything fresh in your mind right with learning and such then have to go back and try to get them there later because you don’t know how your schedules will be and what not either.

I would imagine that you will see some at least local recruiters come in and talk to your class about jobs.

    jmarc77 Thanks this.

When I left my last company they held me to the last day of my two weeks notice. Even tried to dispatch me on a load that day. We had some heated cell phone discussions which were up to and including where they could find their truck on the 81 in Virginia.....

As another update, I've now completed the classroom portion of the course and today was the first day of the in-truck portion. We went over the pre-trip in depth, and went over the air brake test as well. We also practiced some straight backing which I was able to do quite easily. The truck itself seems to be a lot more forgiving than the shifting simulator, though I'm sure the clutches and transmissions in these training trucks have lived a hard life.

If you have a training truck with a working clutch brake then you can be sure it has been replaced recently.
