WIA is a great way to pay for it. Hit your local Workforce Solutions office ASAP and find out when their next orientation/application time is. Also hit your local community college and see if they offer a truck driving class.
QFMFT. Sapamil, EVERYONE should pre-plan their routes, no matter how new or how experienced s/he is, even if it's just with paper maps. Once upon a time even YOU did it, when you were a rookie; later, after running routes a few times, you learned them, and plotted them in your head--but you still plotted them. Paper maps are great, especially when updated and accurate, but they can't give you this: That's a traffic and construction conditions on Google Maps. FTMFW, BTW. I plot my bus routes daily, especially in the afternoons, and pick them based on traffic conditions. And I do it with my commute, too. Or when I do a field trip, especially a long-distance one. Oh, and here's another great feature: That is WAY more accurate than any paper map will ever be, and their satellite images are at best less than a year old, and off military satellites. I've used this to make sure an area I was going into didn't trap my bus. So you might need to rethink your stance a bit.
I remember Millis didn't exactly deny me but after I put in all my paperwork and having frequent contact with the recruiter she just dropped off the face of the earth couldn't get in touch with her. That time I got a good non-driving job gig so didn't care. Then about 2-3 months later she called back stating if I was still interested in the position. I rolled my eyes and politely declined.
So true. It's really a matter of understanding, accepting, and resolving the myriad limitations of technology. A LEO won't care one bit if your GPS took you down the clearly marked non-truck road in Gary on the way to the truck stop or got you stuck under that 11'4" bridge in Chicago. Your eyes still have to work.
Lux,I would give them a call back and just advise that you placed an application with them, and are seeing if they've had a chance to look at it yet. That's what i did when I applied. I put my app in on Sunday, called on Thursday, and had an answer Friday morning.
I applied the 28th also, called them on the 30th to follow up, and said they will get back with me by June 5 and if not to call them again. I take it they're pretty busy right now... The suspense is killing me, but I'm trying to stay patient. Give them a call, and they should be able to tell you which recruiter is handling your app.
Given the story of the guy who applied, talked to a recruiter, who then blew him off for six whole months, before deigning to call him back with an offer, well after he went elsewhere, has me thinking they aren't exactly serious about new drivers.
Lux, they do need new drivers, the person who told that story is a rare occurance and there may well be more to the story. Youve only heard one side. Millis gets a LOT of applications, its like anything else you may want in life. If you dont stay on it you coud miss a good chance.
