Wouldn't a prison sentence be something they can look up and verify? I have nothing like that to hide...I literally did have personal issues involving my fathers dead and my mothers surgery.

Here is something to have positive come out if this, you do not have to worry about being one the corporate gerbil wheel. So many other companies on the road that are looking for safe drivers.

I'm willing to be a gerbil for one year though, and I would just look at it as free training and free experience, and perhaps move to a better company later. I'd look at it like it is: a starter company.

Most other starter companies don't offer sponsored-training along with a pet policy...thats the two reasons I chose Prime. Sure I could with Swift because they train you, but they don't allow my pet to go with me. I could go to Con-Way because they have a pet policy, but the training isnt free and I don't have extra money for paying tuition. Prime was a perfect solution for me because they both trained you, and had a pet policy....really disappointed that they didn't give me a shot, I would have actually been one of the few knuckleheads that was serious about driving long-term, and willing to stick it out with a starter company during the good times and the bad times.

Oh well, it will be primes loss in the long-run, and another company's gain. If Prime wants to hire some 21 year old idiot that got fried from flipping burgers and thinks living on the road is a dream-life and doesnt understand the realities of the profession, then thats fine. Those type of kids are dime a dozen. But they had a chance to hire a hard-working, open-minded, and dedicated worker. Not to mention I'm a single male with no picky demands about home-time, insurance, or terminal location. I would have been perfect for Prime, and maybe someday they'll learn to hire people like me despite the fact that we had to take time off of work to deal with personal matters.

Grab a few rags from the truck stops and call the companies, only a small percentage of companies are posted here on TTR and I guarantee you there are many companies looking for someone like you.

Let's be positive here and look at government grants, yes grants will pay for CDL training if the school is reputable.

After spending months exploring all the options, I scratched together $900 and signed up for an 8 week CDL course at my local community college. Why would you want to pay four times that amount so that you can train with some company that tosses you a couple hundred bucks a week while you're doing it? That's right, they don't pay for your training. You pay them back by agreeing to work for them for a year while they pay you half what you would be earning at another company. So half your annual pay is going back to the company to pay for your CDL training.

Oh, and if you get fed up and leave before your time is up, or if they decide that they don't like you and start giving you 500 miles per week and starve you out so that you quit, you STILL owe them the $4000-$7000 for training. And they'll make it almost impossible to get hired somewhere else.

Don't get me wrong, Prime is one of the best training companies out there. But I wouldn't consider training from scratch with any other companies.

Trucking does not care the reasoning and won't even try to understand. You have'nt even started trucking so what you did in the past like taking care of your fathers estate ect should'nt have anything to do with you going to a company for schooing to get your CDL but it does. Can you find some paperwork with dates to fax to Prime or even witnesses for proof?

My first driving job after completing CDL school (where I am still employed) paid me 25% of gross revenue to the truck. The truck averages a minimum $2/mile for all miles, so I started at $0.50/mile. I have earned up to $2.50/mile on some NYC expedite loads.
