Chuck, who are you to judge me? You think the untimely death of my father coupled with my mother being crippled from surgery is in EXCUSE? That was a several months of my life I had to sacrifice with no reward, not to mention I had to quit my job and move 3,000+ miles away to take on family responsibilities. That's right...3,000 miles. I had to completely leave behind my old life, my job, my friends, everything, because of this. So you can screw off with your half -### assumptions and condescending remarks. You are talking to a grown man, not your son, so act like it.
I don't have to justify my questions to you. If I have a question about which companies allow pets, and which sort of trucks are issued to new drivers, thats my right as an American worker, and it's my job and my duty to make sure I am well-informed about a company's policies before I join them. If you don't like my questions, you don't have to read them, and you certainly don't have to waste your time and energy responding to them. When you do answer them, and leave remarks that are assumptive and condescending, it makes you look like another forum troll, whether you like it or not. Don't tell me what kind of questions I can ask before stepping into a completely new career..thats my business, it's my concern, and it's my ####### right to do so. That's exactly what this forum is here for, and I have every intention to take full advantage of that freedom if it saves me from making a wrong choice.

Not every company in America " HAS TO " hire evey person who attempts to apply for employment with them , regardless of the mishaps that caused them an upheaval in their lives.
garp Thanks this. -
By the way, I FINALLY got an e-mail back from my Prime recruiter! I assumed they had forgotten about me. The recruiter said he is going to re-review my application and possibly send me a verification form for the unemployment:
Steven,
After your second email I decided to send a request for review to a superior, so that we can process your application again. He is reviewing your emails sent to me (including this one) and will give me direction to re-address the gap of employment in your work history. The lack of employment on your application will need to be verified. As soon as I get information on your file I will get in touch with you.
Thanks,
PRIME INC.
2740 N. Mayfair PO Box 4208
Springfield Mo. 65808Steven,
I left out the recruiters name, but I really appreciate the fact that he finally got back up with me and decided to be a bit more fair when reviewing my application. I wish he would have replied before I submitted applications to Central and FFE, but there's nothing wrong with having more choices and a fall-back plan, just in case! -
I'm rooting for ya! I know that Prime has a much longer training period, but they have much higher starting pay than most carriers. That will make a huge difference in the pay check when going solo.
-
Truck type(shouldn't really matter but it does to some people), pet policy, and questions along those lines can be more important to some people than average miles and pay. -
I like how Chucktaylor insinuates that someone inquiring about company policies, and asking about company equipment, is somehow being picky or silly. Wtf? It's a completely new career to me and some of my questions are important to me, and some are mere curiosity. If I was a rectuiter for a trucking company, I'd consider it my job to answer those questions to prospective drivers.
-
hey huckster, i dont think there is anything wrong with those questions, in fact i think they are pretty valid questions that alot of us new drivers have. I chose to apply for Prime and part of the reason is because i have a dog too. And also, worrying about company equipment is not a crazy question either. The reason i asked my recruiter about the equipment is because my father told me that if i apply for a big-box carrier, make sure their trucks are 4 years or younger, or else you'll be broken down almost every month waiting in hotels and wont be makin any money. thankfully, prime uses good trucks compared to some of the other starter companies i checked out. i expect breakdowns, but hopefully not every month!

you some how think of yourself as an exceptional hiring. That Prime should just bend over backward and jump hoops to get their hands on you. Look past your unemployed history. I'm simply saying: you cant take the hint.
Where you see a rude recruiter, i see one who wasn't really interested in what you have to offer. There are all kinds of "boo hoo" stories. Maybe yours is true and then again maybe it's not. The recruiter has to sift thru the BS. When it comes down to it, they take the path of the recruit with the least problems. Lest anyone forget, you don't have a CDL.
its an employers market. We've got the lowest turnover in years right now. Shortage of trucks, students an trainees to train.
You put the cart in front of the horse. It's not a new career if you don't get that CDL. If you think that is a given, its not. I'm sure some of the Prime instructors here can give you phone numbers of a few people that either gave up, or didn't pass.
Ill let you get back to -
I applaud your dedication to your family. I hope my kids are half as dedicated to me when I get (really) old.
I was turned down by Prime for the same reason. I was retired, but I had been in a 1/2 time volunteer position. I had references from my supervisor for the year I worked as a volunteer. I have my CDL. My previous work history was 22 years with the same employer. Tell Prime to suck a duck. there are other companies that will train you. If you can make it through what you went through with you situation. You can survive for the first year at a POS training company. Then go anywhere you want.wyldhorses Thanks this. -
huckstah, I know how you feel about companies not hiring you because of being unemployed. My story is pretty close to yours. I've been unemployed for three years. Taking care of my parents who live across the country. My mom is in late stages of alz. and just found out my dad is in the early stages of it also. I also went through the same bs from prime and other companies. Hurts when all your trying to do is get back to work and you hear no because of work gaps. My parents are still alive and do need help. Dad called ask me yesterday to come and help for awhile again so guess I'll put off trying to get my cdl. Good luck to you.
