Believe it or not, there are drivers that speak highly of Covenant. This one guy I knew was a trainer with them for some years. He had quit, went back to them. He'd still be there if he didn't find a local job driving for Kroger in Memphis. If Covenant is your only option as far as ones that will take you, go for it. Remember, the first year is about gaining experience behind the wheel by any means necessary.

Why team? Have you any experience that suggests you can sleep in a moving truck? Many people drop out of team driving because they cannot sleep in the moving truck.

Are you the tupe of person that can sleep in loud & busy places? If you don't know do not assume you can. Every company that hires newbies will have you share a truck with a more experienced driver/trainer. My trainimg was 8 weeks and I never slept more than 2 hours straight. I'm a light sleeper.

Almost no company is going to put 2 newbies in a truck until after each newbie spends 6-8 weeks in individual training. Mostly, they want one experienced driver amd will accept a less-experienced co-driver.

Lots of people come here asking if a husband & wife pair show up can they get a truck and try to learn trucking. That's not how it will work.

Definebyour goal and define the important requirements. If you try and enter just by putting up with whoever will hire you, it's likely you leave the industry quickly, like 80-90% of newbies. You need to find a good match for you & your needs. Only you can decide what your needs are, we can help you decide.

I think it was CRST who used to team 2 newbies together. Not sure if they still do.

As suggested above -- you're better off proving yourself as a solo driver FIRST -- then later try team driving....if you stay in trucking that long.

Try to score a solo driving job with one of the carriers that visits/recruits from your CDL school. That's not a bad idea, becuz:
    • carriers like that usually hire & train brand new drivers; this is especially important, given how bad the current CDL job market is for newer drivers
    • you thus know those carriers are actively looking at that time for more CDL help
    • you have there a unique opportunity to talk with a company representative FACE-TO-FACE...which allows you to build a much better business rapport....than trying to do the same thing, over the phone. This will later improve your chances of being offered a job, & then hired.
To better your hiring chances even more: upon graduation with your CDL -- try to pick up/get ALL the relevant CDL endorsements: tanker, hazmat...& doubles/triples. This will later show prospective recruiters that you are serious, & you mean business.

That's done during CDL school. That was done when I went to CDL school years ago. The instructor and 4 students in the truck. Instructor in the passenger seat, one student driving and 3 students sitting on the bunk in the sleeper compartment. The instructor said that method saves time to ensure the students got their drive time in.
