Here's the deal. I have a load where 3 other trucks also loaded at same place are delivering at same place. My original appointment was set for 7 pm the following day. HOS allows to drive directly through to park at receiver, which I did. Arrived at midnight. Figured they will call me in when they are ready, which they did (8 am). 1 truck had an appt at 5am, which they are working on him now. It takes them about 4 hours to unload each. They have called me in. I am waiting as soon as first truck leaves to go into receiving station. While waiting on deck the other 2 trucks arrive. Broker wants me to go back out to the parking area and wait til 2pm (somehow now it is 2??). What is the correct action here? This is my 3rd load for this broker and is the only one I have been dealing with to date. My authority is 5 weeks old. Also note that this broker has already "found me a backhaul" that loads tomorrow.

In my mind if one of the other trucks was late for their appointment, it would have still ran smooth if I was sitting here waiting anyway. But this appears to not be the case. What is the play here?

If the receiver wants you to unload the broker shouldn't have anything to say about it . Are you using just one broker ? What's the point of having your own authority if one broker runs the show ? What is the rate of the "backhaul"? You shouldn't have that word in your vocabulary. You need more sources for loads to get reloaded quicker .

His "backhaul" rates are slightly above other broker's rates. I know not to use that word, the truck costs the same no matter what direction it moves. I have several sources for loads, but the past week has been dead slow. Hopefully it is will turn out better this week. One thing I do not like about the guy I am currently working with is he wants to book loads too far in advance. I am not even in the door to deliver this load, don't have info for my haul back to home, and he is already talking about another load leaving from close to home. I told him that is booking too far ahead and is asking for trouble. Not going to play that game. He is loading me with round trips, and for now (as I am only getting started) I see it kind of as a good thing as far as keeping the money coming in. Last week, my first week, I grossed $6350 on 2842 miles. Could be better but for now I am happy.

Thanks. That is exactly what I did. If they are looking for slow, late trucks then I am sure they will have no problem covering their loads instead of calling me. Appreciate the replies.

If he's my go-to broker and I was already planned for the next load, if I had time to wait and earn some brownie points with the broker, I'd have waited. If the broker was a cheapskate or had been difficult in the past I would have unloaded before the other trucks anyways. Selling a service, and being flexible doesn't hurt when it doesn't hurt.

Well it all worked out OK in the end. The other trucks were late so they brought me in. I was half done before the other guy showed up, 3 hours late for his 9 am. I am now waiting for the pickup number (have load confirmation) from same broker for load back close to home. It is a good rate to go back, a little more than other brokers pay. He was trying hard to get me to take another load into nj deliver saturday. I am not doing that, that will mean probably waiting til monday at earliest to reaload. Thought he was going to get angry with me but he didn't. I have another guy I can call to haul the same type of loads for anyway. Not worried about it at all. I got this authority to better manage my time and that is what I'm gonna do.

You can call it what you like. I have a run right now that goes out and back and I make money I am happy with it. Lets just leave it at that. I am not about to tell you what the rates I am hauling for, for obvious reasons. I am happy with it, happy with the rates and the schedules, so in my mind nothing else matters.
