For what it's worth, I'm Back.
Gave this a few months to ferment & thought I'd check back in. Seems as tho some learned, & some didn't.

Anyway, the ep-2500 honda is still doing fine as did the kawasaki before.
Glad some of ya had good luck with the Chi. gensets! I however never did.:biggrin_25512:
I have NEVER had a DOT officer (State, CVSA trained, or FEDERAL DOT FMCSA officer ) even comment on my remote gas tank durring the several level 1 inspections I've had over the years! NONE EVER!

Mount it properly & there will be no problem!

IF ya own the truck you drive, think about a gas fired genset, a/c, & portable heater before ya spend the BIG bucks for an "official" apu.

    Later Ya'll !:biggrin_25517:

    companyman Thanks this.

but that is only because the officer is not up to speed on the regulations. There are so many of them that neither they nor us can keep up on every detail of the regs all the time. Any DOT cop that seems to have an issue with auxiliary fuel tanks usually has never confronted them before. And if a citation is issued, it is an easy fix.

It would be wise, for anyone strapping on or carrying auxiliary fuel to also have a copy of the regulations that deal with this. Usually an amicable discussion with an LE, along with showing them the regulations, will eliminate most problems. But then, there is always that Barney Fife out there. But I would love to run into him.... I am at the stage in my life where I would love to stand in front of a judge and have Barney taken down a notch.

I'm trackin cowpie1, but I've not had these issues anywhere! GA,CA,WA,OR,CO,MO,etc...anywhere! I know I'm blessed.
I have been inspected twice since Christmas! Leval 3 in NM, and a level 2 in AR, Before that, there were level 1s in MO,& UT (72 hr.blitz.) NONE had a single question about my gen gas tank. Not even the FEDS! Prior to those inspections were all the ones since 2000 which didn't take notice either!

    FERGETABOUDIT!

Do what ya need to do to save a buck!

I have had my own truck since march of last yr and I dont have an apu or anything. Dont really need 1. Have lots of blankets, quilts for the winter time and fans for the summer time. avg 2 to 3 hrs of idle time a day. 1 of which is just throughout the day as I stop for breaks or coffee or fuel. Just dont think there is a need for 1. waste of money as far as I am concearned. just my 2 cents worth.

To bring this up from the past...
I am looking into making my own setup using either a tri fuel or diesel generator (if the diesel has a pump and can be tied into the trucks tanks).
I like the thought of the propane for ease of filling. Just walk to the propane island with the bottle instead of dropping trailer etc.
Seriously leaning towards the rooftop ac units to provide heat and air conditioning.
Most generators come with a 12v output for the batteries on the truck, and I will get enough watt capacity to plug the block heater in too. I would make my own frame and cover for it, and add a remote starter key in the sleeper to fire it up.
If anyone has any constructive ideas on what brand lasts longer etc, then fire away. To those that say "Tripac or go home", follow your own advise and stay home. I refuse to follow the crowd and spend @$10k of my own money to provide a simple energy source. My rig is paid for, and have no intentions of selling her anytime soon. The new rigs are far too much of a PIA IMHO for me to consider downgrading to a newer rig:biggrin_2553:

Just when I thought I had it figured out...
Been offered a 3600hr Tripac for $3K complete. Only thing I would need for install is the fuel fitting to feed it. He said he had it fed from a T fitting on the crossover tube between the tanks.
Complete with the Espair heater, ac, control panel, etc, all supposed to be tip top shape.
    Thoughts??

I would snap that up. Typically see unit with a lot more hours in the 5k range.
