Ok is anything wrong with a diesel generator, I know the cost is a little more but i would like to know if one can be tied into the existing fuel system. Also if I did purchase a diesel would I be able to use one of those boxes cowpie has listed or would there be an issue with fumes. Also if mounted on he rails do I need to cut a hole to run the extension cord? I am looking into the generator route because I refuse to pay $6,000 to 10,000

The only issue, is if you do California. Those greenie nazis even have ideas about a generator being CARB approved. A diesel should last a little longer. The outfit that does those boxes for generators will build anything to any dimensions you need. They just list the ones that are most common. As for mounting anything, the best solution I have seen is Chassis Grabber. No drilling, strong mount on the frame rail. Easy to move from truck to truck just about anything you can put on a frame rail.

JT, to answer your questions, YES a diesel genset can be plumbed to the trucks tanks! Without a doubt. Heres one I would/have considered. www.northerntool.com pn:165930-2201. $3,500.00. Remember that air-cooled diesels are LOUD, heavy, & expensive compared to a comperable gas rig. The fact that this one uses a Yanmar engine and a northstar generator does make it more desireable than others in my opinion.
(I'm sure there are others just as good tho I personally don't know them.)
As far as getting the power into the truck, find an existing hole under the sleeper where wires come out or drill a hole for the cord.

With all due respect, please find a compitent shop/mechanic to do the fuel & electrical connections if your not sure how to do it yourself.

    Edit;
    Cowpie nailed it about CA!
Anything gas or diesel, needs to be ARB,EPA,CARB approved and must have a sticker/data plate stating that. It also must have a fuel pump if it runs a remote fuel tank. Be careful when selecting a genset! Most gas rigs do NOT have a fuel pump!!! In the case of the northstars for example, they use Honda engines so the PDF parts list won't show detailed parts of the engine. Ya have to go to Honda for that.

Good luck & hope we've helped you decide what you need. Lotsa good info here!

    JT,
It may seem simple to you to post photos, but for me it's not! I can take the photo, but don't have a clue how to get it outa the camera and onto here.

Again, the easiest way to accomplish this would be to buy for example the Honda eu-3000 is. It's self-contained has plenty of power, is electric start, and has a fuelpump. Get the one thats CARB certified ie; "for sale in california" ($2,100.00) This is a high-end genset and will last for years!
    Again,,,www.northerntool.com pn:101609-2201

Mount a piece of 3/4 plywood across the framerails behind the sleeper and bolt this sucker to it, run the cord (12-3 min.) and hit the road! It's that easy and I did this for years before I ever mounted one in a box.

If you can cut a piece of wood, drill a few holes, & work a wrench you can do this yourself.

most overhead valve engines will have a fuel pump , briggs has them, but one cost about 20 bucks and can be added to any engine , they pulse off the crankcase pressure to pump the diaphragm.

Thanks Martin! That's exactly the one I like best for mounting inside a box.

JT, before ya spend a grand on something used, think about it a little more. The eu is twice the price but...it's brand new and with a warranty. Any Honda shop on the planet can service it. Since it does have that fuelpump, later on if you want to it can be box-mounted and run off a remote tank.

Here is another option, the Generac 3750 pn; 169141-2201 @ $519.00 and shipping is free. I didn't recomend this before because I have no experience with Generac sets. Don't know if it has a fuelpump either but C/S @northern could tell you over the phone.

Point is that there are ALOT of options for you to consider. If the tri-pac or whatever is whatcha want, then do that.

    Good luck to you Sir.
