If you go with a Coleman type AC unit, you should probably want to spec a generator that has 3500W or more output, so that you don't have to shut off the AC every time you want to use the microwave or something else.
-
As soon as I pick the rooftop ac, I will be taking the plunge I think.
I notice that the EU3000 has a 12 amp 12vdc output vs the "normal" 8 amp dc output....

All I have is a coffee pot and the TV, of which run off the inverter.
The generator will purely be used for ac/heat/block heater/battery charger. No microwave etc in my rig.
Main issue is, will the "normal" Coleman rooftop ac units handle getting the abuse my old '06 Freightshaker will throw its way?

JT,I can assure you that I have installed the Coleman Mini-Mach on several customer trucks and had one on mine for 5 years with NO problems.
I did not like the "heat-strips" (Martin) cause heat rises and the thermostat is in the roof panell as you know. It's easy to wire around the oem thermostat & use a cheap wall-mount thermo. like in an R/V. Gets it down where yer at which would be better IMO. A cube-heater for 20bucks down on the floor works better I think.
I was paying about 400 bucks for the mini w/panell, but that was about 6 years ago & I was ordering 2 at a time.
JT shoot me a pm. I'll make you an offer.Last edited: Mar 11, 2012

Is the Mini Mach a current model?
I found this one, which is a 9200BTU unit.

Sound the same as the mini mach? -
Exactly YES that's the same unit (polar-cub) but the price is up considerable. It will do ya fine as mine did good running the south (tx,la,ms,al,fl,etc) in the summer. 9200 btus is enough for even the pro-sleeper that was on my 2000, int.9900-i.
edit; it actually cooled the truck better than the 12,000btu unit I'm using now.Cowpie1 Thanks this. -
Cool, will compare to the Roughneck and go from there then mate.
