Thank You.
Yes, I remember he recommended 12000 btu/ 1100 watt portable a/c, I think my alternator won't handle that. I think I need something less than 10000 btu, probably 8000 btu / 760 watts? Is 135 amps enough to run truck, AND 760 watt a/c, AND charge batteries?
Apu decision time

Well, you dont need heat do you?
So, just ac then. If the ac unit pulls 1100 watts at @110 volts ac, that equates to 10amps in ac power from the inverter.
From my calculations, assuming 100% efficiency which is not going to
happen BTW, the inverter will draw @78 amps at 14 volts. Not ideal.

Then, 760 watt a/c will be ok? I understand that 8000 btu is not enough to cool the cab, but my main concern is not a comfort, but safety. I don't want to burn inverter or alternator, or drain batteries. Is it safe to try 760 watt a/c? Or should I buy more powerful alternator and inverter first?

I would honestly NOT try to run ac in the truck by an inverter.
Get a cheap gas generator and power the ac from that. Doesnt matter what noise it makes if you are going down the road huh?
The cheaper generators are less money than a good inverter these days, not to mention an upgraded alternator, maybe new batteries, and so on.
Have you had the ac diagnosed at all? Or just guessing that the whole system is junk?

Other (expensive) options:
Get one of those step toolboxes, buy a smaller tool box for the side, then use the room gained from all that to mount the genset.
Buy a big box headache rack, lose a toolbox altogether, and then have lots of room on the frame.
Not so expensive options:
Make a bracket etc and mount the generator where the catwalk would be, assuming the trailer would clear it while turning.
Would also have to look at the space between the headache rack and the back wall of the sleeper. There is a big exhaust frame on one side, but nothing on the other side......

Cheap generators consume more gas - which means more money. Another concern - vibration, I have no idea how generators perform while truck is moving. -
Generator will vibrate whether its turned on or not. No difference there IMHO.
I would try to get in touch with some used parts places too, Samsriverside.com is one I have used with success.

Got sick of looking at them, as did my wife!
Idiots around me want @$1850 for a used EU3000, that they claim is new. And then other idiots want $750 for a EU2000, when I can get brand new for under $900
Just went to a Honda dealer, got a EU3000is for $1900 plus tax after a little haggling, along with the 12v cord to keep the batteries charged.
Then went to Lowes and got a 8,000 BTU free standing/portable a/c unit for $249.99.
The freestanding one is a temporary measure until I get the rooftop a/c unit I want (Coleman Polar Cub, 9,200 BTU). When I get the rooftop one delivered and installed, the portable can be used in the house as a booster, or the shop to aid my wall mounted a/c unit in there.
Loading Monday heading to Mesa, Az, so intend on saving some money!!!!! In fact, I NEED to save some money after parting with that, after I got a reman rear end and wheel bearing last week
Martinscottied67 Thanks this.
