Don't worry too much about the weight. They give you an extra 400 pounds at the scales if you have an APU. Just about all the states are on board with this new reg.

Better use of money but not better use of time. Do the math on what a real APU runs and compare that to what it cost you per day. Less than $5 bucks a day.

OMG, I am laughing my butt off. Come on and sign along, - MIC-KEY MOUSE

And then cut that big hole in the back. That will be a boost to the resale value.

    I don't know how you figured $5 a day...???

By my math that would mean on a APU costing in the $8-10k range, you are depreciating that cost, for the purpose of this argument, to between 4 and 5 years.

Either you have never owned one, or haven't owned one for very long. A 4-5 year life cycle is unrealistic.

I have owned three different brands of APU over the years(including a TK unit that is on one of my trucks now) and all of them tend to start breaking down frequently at about the two year mark. They are not cheap to fix either. If you take them to the dealer, you can typically expect a $500 bill minimum each time you visit.

meathead, if its an overhead valve engine it has a fuel pump. even a cheap 99 dollar chinese knockoff of a honda at harbor freight has a fuel pump on . we race these chinese clones and briggs overhead valve on karts and we simply remove the top tank and install a remote tank between the steering shaft on racing karts , run a fuel line to it the tank to inlet of pump and you in business, the pump works on crankcase pulse , the old flatheads needed to be gravity feed as they worked off a diaphram in the carb, these new engines have a float card and need a little fuel pressure. twolane has got ya on this one.

10k hours wont take five years to reach for many, however, that is a hell of a deal. I would have to agree with that extended warrantee being a smart purchase.

That is something I almost never say. Usually extended warrantees don't make financial sense for the purchaser.

The only question that I would have is if it is like most aftermarket truck warrantees; full of exclusions.

I'm sure you will also have to go to the "authorized" dealer to have the warrantee honored.

With all of that said, I would call that a nice deal provided the warrantee isn't chock full of exclusions.

I agree on most extended warranties. I have become something of a slueth on getting the most out of them.

But this is just an extension of factory warranty from Carrier.

And yeah it likely won't last the 5-years but based on what I have read on APU service I will likely have replaced many of the components by then.

I have had one of the first generation Carrier units. It was actually a Proheat, which was bought out by Carrier and rebranded into what is now the Carrier unit. Of the three different brands that I have owned, it was the smelliest of the three turds.

Hopefully they have made improvements in the last five years. I would assume that they have just due to natural evolution of technology.
