If I understand you question correctly, you can use an extension cord from your generator to ac unit that you would setup when parked then remove when ready to run. Purchase a good quality one . Myself I would not use anything less then 12/3 ( gage of conductor/ number of conductors) X 50ft That would be good for 20 amps. Extension cord should be rated for "outdoor use". If you need more length get a 100 ft. cable. Do not use 2-50ft cables. If you were going to run 30 amps you would need 10/3 cable with a 30 amp rated plug which is most likely what your camper was running.

When using an extension cord, do not put it between the door and frame causing the cable to pinch. That could result in a posable fire or energize the tractor . Run it through an access hole or the window opening again don't allow the cable to pinch or rest on sharp metal edges. You can get a good quality contractor grade cable from any home builder or electrical supply store.

Take care of it when in use to prevent any physical damage to cable and replace if you see any breaks in the outside covering. If your generator dose not have a GFIC circuit breaker on the unit they have one you can attach in line with the extension cord. ( this is an OSHA requirement for construction sites to help reduce the possibility of death or injury due to electrical shock from faulty electrical equipment).

Now as much as I like the generator idea that @Hurst has done with his trucks, I've had grate success with buying used refurbished apu's that come with a year warranty. The cost with install is $2300, about the same price as what @Hurst paid for his setup. Not saying is better then the other, but it's worth thinking about.

Hurst is correct. The floor mounted unit I have is a single hose unit. When it gets real hot it doesn’t quite keep up. I already owned it though. I bought a dual hose unit (way better effecincy) to put in here but haven’t gotten around to it.

That said I’m in the Midwest and home most weekends. The few times it’s been to hot I just idle the truck. If I was buying a brand new truck or had a driver in one, it would have a brand new diesel APU no question.
